the moosh: Whatcha dooin mom?
me: Watching the inauguration.
the moosh: *crinkly nose “WHAT THE?” face*
me: We just got a new president!
the moosh: WHO!?
me: Him! (pointing at the TV)
the moosh: Bar-rockin Bamma?
me: Yeah! He’s our new president!
the moosh: BUT WE GOT HIM LAST YEAR.
Apparently I made too big of a deal out of the election last year. Whoops. Never expected that.

Awww. Nice to know this is the world she’ll grow up in, at least in respect to the fact that *anybody* can be president, right?

My girls (3 & 4) were Barack and Michelle for Halloween, so they were super dooper excited today. My 4yo did happy dances all afternoon when she saw the girls.
And I did a happy dance of my own.

My three year old asked Barack Obama’s name yesterday while I was watching the inauguration.
‘Brock Onanna?’ he said.

I love that!
I think I’ll call him that from now on
I was very excited that out whole district k-12 watched (at least the swearing in). My hub is a teacher in a middle school and they were only allowed to watch if it pertained to the content area they taught! Teaching science he couldn’t find a connection and didn’t get to watch it with his students. Fortunately, the students did watch in history, language arts (best orator of our time), and math (logistics and planning!)
Yay Bar-rockin’ Bamma!

My preschooler drew pictures of our new President all day yesterday, and then he wondered if he liked cake too… I just love the way little kids think!

My kids say it either Rock Obama or Mott Namama, depending on whether you ask the 4yo or the 2 1/2yo.
We watched for most of the day–going to church, the swearing in (incidentally, if you Google “swearing in” it tries to complete your search as “swearing in japanese”), the luncheon, the parade, but skipped the balls.

Ooh, I just love her! My son wasn’t too impressed either:
Me: “How was school today?”
Him: “Fine”
Me: ” We got a new President today!”
Him: “Mah-Um, you told me that this morning.” (with much eye rolling)

I am sure he would love the new name Bar-rockin Bama. My son said to me, about halfway through the coverage, “I wish today was a school day.” “Why?” I asked. “So I wouldn’t have to watch this anymore,” he replied. No amount of trying to explain the Lincoln Bible or why I was crying over the amazingness of a non-white president could make enough of an impression to change his tune.
I guess that’s fair from the preschool set.

I told the 5 yo that yesterday was about the new president. That we voted for a new awesome president and she looks at me and says “NO I DIDN’T! I voted for bananas. Where are my bananas?”
Ok, then.
