moosh in indy.

*ahem* it’s my birthday.

April 2009 will not go down in history as the BEST! MONTH! EVER! for anyone I know.

Me included.

However.

April 2009 will go down as one of the most blessed months of my life.

For every horrible thing that knocked me down this month, there was a net already in place to catch me.

You were my net.

Yes. You.

When I went in for a painful medical procedure I had a dear friend to hold my hand and tuck my drooling face into bed when it was all over.

That same friend took the moosh in as her own when I flew across the country to be with one of my best friends who lost part of her heart on April 7th.

When I got into an accident on an LA freeway I had two ladies in the car with me who turned my sobs of sadness into sobs of laughter.

When complete and all consuming emotional exhaustion punched me in the face, I had friends who called, texted, tweeted, emailed, stopped by and just showed up.

I received more bad news today about my reproductive future but it’s okay, because I have friends who believe something good is going to come of this.

While Cody is off claiming adverse possession of the Law Library until 2 am, I have my one and only sissy sitting next to me watching ER reruns all night.

Instead of having to march around my city alone in honor of Maddie, I was surrounded by 16 other women. Five of those women made me laugh so hard I forgot to breathe. Multiple times.

Just as I’m about to slip under and succumb to the extreme blergh of the entire month of April, some lady shows up in some form with inappropriate jokes, Canadian candy,  professional hugging arms or words of extreme comforting wisdom.

Pardon me, but girls pretty much kick ass.

Today is my birthday. I am 27 years old. Don’t feel much like celebrating, but it is a tradition that you darlings make me a comment cake on my birthday. Layers of comments filled with the best things that happened to you in the month of April.

I know it sucked for a lot of us, but there were bright spots.

And you were mine.

Comments off.

First: Happy birthday!!!

The best thing about April: yesterday, my two kids gathered around me reverently as I picked the first ripe strawberry in my garden. We shared it while it was still warm from the sun.

(And yes, this was an awful month for many reasons, but even in the midst of all this, I’m glad you are focusing on your blessings.

Thanks for being a blessing to me and others who love your blog.)

Kimmies last blog post..Ya, I am still alive…sorta.

I spent my 30th birthday all grumpy because I didn’t have two kids, and I’d planned on having two kids at 30.

Guess what I did? Ruin my birthday. If we’ve learned anything from the Spohrs, it’s that we need to celebrate each day. They celebrated every month.

I guess I’m throwing down the gauntlet, reminding you that you have a husband and a daughter, and that children come to us in a variety of ways.

So suck it up and party like a big girl. Eat some cake and make out with your husband.

You’ll be glad you did.

The best thing that happened to me in April was my six year old daughter taking her training wheels off her bike. I get tears in my eyes when I think of how proud she was of herself.

happy birthday casey. i discovered your blog in the last few weeks, during the month that the universe has been on a mission to make the saddest. month. ever.

the bright spots? my bebe’s extra kisses when i really needed them. and watching the power of love and the good in people.

i love your writing. and your pictures. happy 27th.

The first thing that comes to mind is the hour long nap that my nephew took on my belly on Sunday.

I also had several Truvyesque (laughter through tears) moments at the funeral of a dear family friend two weeks ago. She would have liked that.

Happy, happy birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! (What better way to spend your birthday than with family watching re-runs of the best show EVER!)

Uhm. The best things that happened to me in April:
-I totally predicted the end of ER. Cause I’m just psychic like that ;]

-I got to hold my baby cousin for the first time.

Happy 27th Casey! Here’s to many more blessed days, months, years.

God Bless.

April’s been somewhat dismal, but I’ll give it a go.

My brother turned 17.

Easter.

I go to court with Gabriel’s dad tomorrow for child support (finally) which will be a huge relief.

Happy Birthday!

Miss Graces last blog post..If they could all be this long…

Thanks for forcing me to concentrate on the positive. I can use that push in the right direction.

One great thing: my old pastor and his wife came to my church and did Sunday service and some workshops. They inspire me, they nurture me and they remind me who I am – the real me, deep inside, not the surface me. I feel so blessed to know them.

The best thing about April besides your birthday, my birthday, and my anniversary…
my sister that is 33 years old is having her first baby. I received a text from her tonight…it said something like this “I have waited my whole life for this, I am in tears!”

Miracles happen, and we are all waiting for ours!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Planted my garden
Saved $64

Don’t hate me for the last one, I know you grew up in Utah and may be a Jazz fan. Thanks for letting me list my April highlights…frankly, before this list, I thought this month generally sucked for me too.

For your birthday I wish you gentleness. Enough time and love to get you through. I wish you love and girlfriends.
For your cake: white delicate plum blossoms and big fluffy cherry blossoms.
Grape hyacinth, all fragrant & sweet.
Velvety dog ears and quiet companionship.
The kind of hug in the middle of your day, which has compassion and acceptance enough that the tears well even when you didn’t expect them but you know it is alright to let them come and that they are necessary healing.
All these have helped me through, and I wish them now for you.

The best thing about April is that the internet rocked some serious support for a hurting family. You were a major part of that and you should be proud that you and Meghan helped rally the troops for Heather and Mike. Your birthday is a perfect day to celebrate what a fantastic human being you are. Next April will be better, right?

In my own life? Meh, not so much. Not bad, not good. Just a month.

Happy Birthday! I adore your blog btw.

Good things for me in April? Wow, thanks for asking :)

- Got hooked on Twitter (ok, I signed up in March, but it’s close enough)

- Found some much needed courage to help me come out of my shell. Making progress too!!!!

- Got a new car

- Had my contract position renewed

- Discovered that people who may not know eachother can be beyond inspiring and move mountains to try and ease the suffering of others. That has renewed my faith in humanity.

April: Awesome indeed.

Happy Birthday, lady. You’re one of the most fascinating, intelligent women I know. AND WHAT YOU ARE JUST 27??? <3

April was not great. But…I did a lot of work in the yard. Sewed a dress for my daughter for the first time. Saw my middle son recognize the letters “M for Mommy” and “D for Daddy”. And saw my youngest son stand on his own for the first time. So I guess it wasn’t so bad. I turn 30 on May 1st though, and I am actually kind of excited about it, so I have great expectations for next month.

Happy Birthday!

Good things about April …

* I met another cool Casey in town. Can’t much beat that. But I’ll try.
* Went to my two oldest sons’ first baseball games of the season
* Indy saw its first really warm, sunny days. Woot!
* I bought a new pair of running shoes–purple. In honor of Maddie and my little friend, Rashale.
* I wrapped up a great, sweet story about Rashale for the magazine where I work.
* I “met” Maddie online through some of the most amazing women and moms in the entire world, who lifted her and her mommy and daddy up on a big, fat cloud of love. It warmed my sad heart.
* I marched for Maddie because I fell in love with her and all of you and wanted to be close to women who were strong and care about other women.
* I got lots of hugs from my kids this month-mostly cause I stole them.
* Neither me nor my hubby lost a job this month (we’re both journalists, so the clock is always ticking!)
* I connected with an old friend.
* I got addicted to Twitter.

Happy day, Casey. My 27th was my favorite year EVAH. Enjoy it. Maybe it will be one of your best years evah, too.

The best thing in April…

1. The awesomeness that is the Internet/Twitter. The way EVERYONE came together to support a family going through a very difficult time. It was pretty amazing.

2. Marching for Maddie – so many people of walked in her honor, including me. Wasn’t sure how I would do, but I finished and that was special.

Hope you have a HAPPY day.

Happy Happy Birthday Casey! Sounds like you met some pretty incredible people – well not just met, but met face to face for the first time… and that is so incredible. I’m excited to meet some bloggers IRL too this summer hopefully!

This month of April was a difficult one, but also so inspiring and full of amazing people and situations. This month of April really shined through to see that we all as bloggers and a community came together to support a family that some of us (me included) have never ever met… and that in itself is what makes April an incredible month.

And, the month of April – talking to a friend of yours and mine who I won’t name here but who you are opening your doors too… and that is absolutely amazing for you to do that. xoxox

Happy Birthday! :) Enjoy your day today!

Happy birthday! Here’s to feeling and living life passionately. And thanks for walking last week. I know I appreciate it.

I had an epiphany that motherhood is my first and most important calling. I was able, for the first time in three years, to relax and not fear the future, not try to find every scrap of work out there. I am at peace with my place in the world.

For perhaps the first time ever.

Because of Maddie.

Worst thing–grief over Maddie’s passing (and no I don’t know the Spohr family at all…just through the blogosphere)

Best thing–hmmm…gettin’ my house painted…drinking wine on my porch…spending a lot more time than usual with my 19 month old daughter…but the BEST thing would have to be discovering a whole group of you “mommy bloggers” (don’t know if you like or hate that term, but I don’t know what else to call you) who I have connected with in a way that I haven’t connected with new friends in quite some time. Who know you all were out here?? And that you all sound just like me?? And that I would feel this connected to a group of strangers from reading tweets and blogs in one short month? For this, I am grateful. My life may be about to change (trying for #2, may quit job that I love b/c childcare is suckingly expensive) and knowing that you all are out here to talk to makes the thought of that a little less daunting. That’s all. Happy Birthday.
From a “stranger” in Atlanta.

Which during this time on a zoo trip we saw Orangutan sex and crazy looking animal ahem penises. But that wasn’t what made it great. Creepy and funny yes. But the great part was a week free from work just to hang with my kiddos. It was a stop and smell the roses kind of thing.

Hey, it’s my birthday too. I knew I liked you.

We ran for Maddie on Saturday. A small March for Babies in a small town, but still important and gutwretching as always.

I’ve struggled a lot this month with ‘life goes on’ stuff. Because of course it does, even when we want it to stop…or reverse…but it does and so do we.

Here is to remembering to live in the moment. Happy Birthday to us.

Happy Birthday, Birthday sister! It’s my birthday too! I hope you have a wonderful day. Here it’s raining, but we already made little mini chocolate cakes this morning, and there are steaks on the grill in my future. If only you lived just a wee bit closer, you could all come over for a birthday dinner. If only I’d known, we could have planned something.

Have a beautiful day.

You know, your birthday is a day to celebrate YOU being around for so-and-so many years, not necessarily for you to celebrate the goodness of the year or day itself.

And I’ll tell you this, it has been a pretty awful month, for pretty much everyone I “know” online and for me personally.

One of the things that has lifted ME up through this month is coming over here to this site. Whether it’s being glad that I don’t have to have a ’scopy (or getting to feel like Part Of The Cool Bloggers Club by sending that pinata ichc about it), glad that Heather & Mike have a friend like you, getting all nostalgic for places in Indy by seeing your march photos, being made to smile by your sillies here and on twitter, or simply being given something to think about, you’ve helped me make it through this month.

And I have to add, that didn’t spring up just in this month (well, the comfort for the bad stuff did)… since I had run across your blog many moons ago and been lurking, I already “knew” you well enough to know I should come over here when I needed a fix.

So for me, this whole past year has really been enhanced by having you around.

Also, woot! (?) because I have finally found someone in the blogosphere that I’m older than. Which seems kind of a dumb thing to celebrate but I’ve been feeling like I’m the annoying online kid sister, following all the big kids around. And I just assumed you were older since Moosh is older than Kibwana. But your freshfaced little self places me in the MIDDLE of the age range. Yay! But wait, does that mean I’m old? Hm…

Anyhow, so, Happy Birthday – we are all happy you got borned today. Especially me. :)

Here’s cheers to April 2009 and to looking forward to May and all the other months and what wonders they may bring and all the challenges we can get through so we can continue to learn and grow.
BTW, as a side note rent the movie “Into the Wild” I’ll warn you now, it’s rated R and has nudity as in nudists of the hippie variety. But that aside, it is very amazing and can be life changing.

Happy Birthday! I’m glad you were born.

Happy Birthday!

While April was touched with sorrow, it was also filled with happiness. My brother and his wife had their first baby. My son turned 12 and seems to have left behind the grumpy age that was 11. Spring weather arrived and all of my seedlings sprouted.

I am a fairly new reader. I started reading after BlissDom09. Most of the people I checked out during that time didn’t make it into my already overflowing Google reader.

But you did and I have been lurking. I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful blogging community. This month it has been amazing to see how close everyone really is. It’s awesome.

Ok longest comment ever is now over :)

I hope you have great birthday!

Happy birthday!

This morning, my daughters actually argued over who loves me more. Serious, hardcore:

“My Mommy is the best mommy and loves me so much!”

“NO! MY mommy is the best mommy and loves ME so much.”

“No! I love mommy more!”

“NO! *I* Love mommy more.”

And so help me, I didn’t break it up. I just sat and basked in it.

Happy birthday my love. I’m kind of sad you didn’t answer your phone when I called, but don’t worry, I’ll keep calling. :) I’m persistent.

the best part of April? Hmm. Going to LA to meet some pretty awesome people. Monday morning chats over laundry. Sleeping curled up with a wonderful dog. Having my cat fall asleep in my lap. Seeing Moosh sleeping. Having my niece release balloons for Maddie. Seeing the amazingness of the blogging community. PinkBerry yogurt (it’s amazing with strawberries and kiwi).

You are amazing and I love you so very much.

The best thing that happened to me this month was discovering an old box full of pictures of my kids. I’d completely forgotten about all of them, so it was fun to look through them all. :)

The best thing that happened in April was hearing that my Dad’s post-prostate cancer surgery PSA blood test came back without any sign of cancer. :)

The best thing that happened to me in April is that my son was born on the 3rd. The rest of the month has gone by in an absolute blur, a wonderful, sleep-deprived blur.

I hope you have a great birthday, and that May is filled with as many blessings as you can handle. :)

Happy birthday to youuuuu!

April birthday’s are the best (my sister’s is the 11th and mine was on the 21st). Hope your day is great.

So I was a little early with the birthday wishes yesterday. So what?! I learned many years ago (since I am so exalted in the age and wisdom) that because my birthday month is generally sucky, filled with craptasticness, and shortchanged in days, that birthdays should be celebrated the whole darn month.

April for me is always the true changing of the seasons — when winter blahs are finally relieved by spring fever, when the tones of greys give way to bits of color, and when I learn to persevere in the face of allergies. I embrace spring showers (no umbrellas for me), run through puddles, get sunburned on winter skin, and give thanks that I’m not snow-bound or stuck in a cubicle. I start walking to the train station and looking at all that the City and/or nature is revealing after a long fall and winter. I celebrate Easter, eat candy, wish my mother a happy birthday, and look forward to vacations. No one thing “makes” the month for me … it’s learning to appreciate all the little things and to look for the unexpected.

Wishing you a Big Apple-full of birthday happiness, love, laughter, pictures, presents, and many happy comments for your comment cake!

Happy Birthday! The best thing about my April is realizing that I’m in a good relationship where we can tell each other when we need space or when we need hugs and the other one is there for that.

Happy Birthday!!! :) In lieu of everything that has happened to you as of recent, it seems like you are doing a great job. I wish you all the best!

Happy Birthday! I hope 27 is a marvelous year for you!

I spent an amazing weekend enjoying the company of my daughter: It was a really rare treat for both of us and it was one of those times that I will hold close forever.

It seems that you’re carrying on a hobbit tradition for your birthday — you’ve shared so many of your gifts with us. For that, we are grateful. (Wait, did I just compare you to a hobbit?! Absolutely not…just like the idea of giving gifts to others one’s birthday)

You’re the only blogger I read regularly, and I look forward to what you share. I love seeing you grow as we see what you truly love through the lens of your camera.

It seems like I too have had a tumultuous April. Part of me was soooo focused on just getting through the month, as I am running my first half marathon in your adopted town, and the only place I will ever call home (regardless of my address). But so many things have caused me to pause, and truly appreciate the gifts of my own life — like my toddler who’s already becoming a formidable opponent in hide & seek and a preschooler who reads the word “exit” and reminds mama that she’s going the wrong way. Oh, how his internal compass has instinct!
So, this Saturday, I’m going to relish in living in a moment I’ve waited to experience. I’m going to see it differently than I would have, had April not been rife with obstacles and blessings all in one. Things like how grief can lead us to hope; how tragedy can unearth a miracle; and how darkness can make us appreciate the light all that much more.

Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday Beautiful!

April was not my favorite this year, but the good things:

1) My daughter turned 10,
2) A new friendship of mine is still happy and strong,
3) I made it to Buffalo NY safely with my four kids and am having a nice visit with family,
4) I have some photography work lined up, too!!

That’s about all the good I’ve seen.

Also, yesterday I had my summative conference with my principal at work (I’m a first-year 3rd grade teacher). She gave me a great review and said I was one of the best first-year teachers she’d ever seen! :)

In April, my husband and I found a brand-spanking-new apartment that we’ll be moving into in June. Back in California, where we’re both from and where our families live. It will be our first place alone, without housemates. Which will be glorious.

I also got my BlogHer ticket, which I was beginning to think would never happen. My husband has also transformed all 10 seasons of Friends into iTunes files so we can watch them on the Apple TV. Woot. (It’s the small things…)

And now I have a heinous cold/sinus infection/bronchitis and 6 tests in the next 8 days. I’m really really really ready for April to be over (and only partially because my birthday is in May).

Hope you had a lovely birthday. I can’t believe my husband is older than you.

Heh. That’ll be fun to bring up to him later.

You. Birthday. Happy. Belatedly.

Best thing to happen in April? I ended a three and a half year relationship that was holding me back from being my true inherent self. While my stomach is aching and my eye is twitching and I’m reveling in the madness that is this breakup — I also realize that this low is the launchpad to the rest of my life. And I’m grateful for that.

Happy Birthday to you! April sucked as you know. But my birthday was on the 12th and I actually managed to forget everything and enjoy the day. Hope you can too!

Happy Birthday! You are so lucky to have so many wonderful women in your life. There were a few good things that happened this month. My little baby (10 months) started walking, complete with the drunk baby walk. Every day she walks a bit more. I got to “see” my new baby. Next month we’ll be able to find out what he/she is. Last but not least, I put in my separation papers with the Air Force. Hooray! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!

Happy Birthday! (From a somewhat new reader sharing the Hoosier state)

April, while receiving the utmost SUCK IT honor, taught me a lot! I have learned the power of friendship both IRL and online. People will walk to the ends of the earth to help friends in need and at their weakest times. I have hugged and kissed more. Laughed more. Beyond doubt appreciated life more. April will not be missed this year but I will hold dearly the valuable lessons that it has taught all of us…time, family and friends are priceless! Thanks for sharing and best wishes for a wonderful birthday!!

Happy birthday (again)!

April was indeed an awful month. But in the midst of all the badness I too found a community of wonderful folks – yourself included – which I feel proud and lucky to be part of.

In other good news, my youngest son (almost 11 months) took his first steps this week! Crazy little dude is gonna be fully walking by 1 yr. We’re screwed. And totally excited. :)

Hope your birthday was a highlight of an otherwise craptastica.com month.

Hey Casey-

Happy Birthday!

April has been pretty much a downer, as we all know… but seeing the blogging community come together for Heather and Mike sort of restored my faith in humanity.

In april I hugged myg irls a little longer (even against their will) and truly started to appreciate more than complain.

Thanks for being such an awesome friend to our Heather- and I promise you GD has a reason for everything with us IF’s… if I werent IF, I wouldnt have both my girls. Just saying!

Happy Birthday young lady. Hug that moosh!

I met some AMAZING bloggers in LA.. some I read, some I didnt but do now.

Happy Birthday Miss Casey!

April has been one of the worst months here as well, but May can only be better.

The best part of April was discovering what truly matters.

After finding out my mother has breast cancer, my best friend has ovarian cancer, miss maddie and the other crappy things that occured in April. I have discovered what is truly important. That is friends and family and the support within those places.

Happy Birthday, a day late. I had no time yesterday to type a comment (hate when work gets in the way of blog stalking). Good things will come your way, I do believe that.

April for me, besides the heartache of Miss Maddie; through that I got to witness a large group of incredible people come together and support 2 wonderful people. And, again, my heart was full with the kindness of strangers.

My husband & I joined our church and my path with God is closer than it was this time last year. I now am trying to do what I should and not what first comes to mind and my time in prayer is longer. Of course, having my 2 year old is always the best! :)

Again, Happy Birthday. I think you are truly remarkable.

I met you because we have the same birthday. I never knew I could have a friend who’s as unique and special as you are. I just wish we could see each other more.

Loves and birthday wishes for someone who’s one of a kind. Seriously. XoXoX

My 8 month old’s EEG was normal. While someone loses everything, others are blessed with a happy ending. I don’t know why it works that way, but at least it gives us reason to hope. Here’s to a better May!!!

Just visiting from Twitter. Happy birthday!

You’re right; April has sucked for pretty well everyone. Best things that happened:

My eldest son, who was a preterm baby and still has some feeding and growth issues, turned four. I made him a super-chocolatey cake shaped like a tank, which was what he wanted.

The baby learned to blow kisses. And he has finally (at almost a year old) decided that he likes to be cuddled at night before bed. Which is very very awesome indeed.

My birth mom, who has inoperable metastatic pancreatic cancer, learned that her tumours are continuing to shrink.

I started work on a new song that I hope will turn into something good.

Spring appears to have finally arrived!

There’s lots of good stuff in the world. We just have to look for it in the right places. Happy birthday!!

Happy happy birthday! I love your blog, btw.

Happy things in April …
I turned 25 and celebrated with friends and family.

Going to Chicago for a long weekend with my boyfriend of 6 months, whom I’m madly in love with and will certainly marry some day. Have never been to Chicago and am super excited! Just found out that I got selected to go to New York City this summer for a Teaching American History Grant program. Boyfriend will come up after the program is over and we will have a long weekend in New York. I have also never been there. Things are going better for me than they ever have.

May is your month, Casey. I can feel it!

I hope you had a fabulous birthday and that you all found something to do.

Um, I enjoyed that my hubby got a week of vacation in April-that and with some E-time he took I saw him for a couple of weeks straight. That hasn’t happened in a long time with his work schedule.

After a difficult pregnancy my daughter was born on April 7th, so of course it was all worth it. April is turning out to be a pretty good month.

Your blog is one of my favorites. You have a beautiful soul.

Happy birthday!

1 – My husband got laid off (w/ severance!) from the horrible job that he wanted to quit so badly but couldn’t figure out an ethical way to leave. That same night, his brother called with a lead on my husband’s dream job.

2 – My baby boy got two teeth and decided to start sitting up.

3 – The 4 year-old has started reading Dr. Seuss books to her 2 year old brother.

Gosh- I’m also hard-pressed to give props to April ‘09 for anything good…

I guess I’ll go with taking on my first foster kitty- she has really brought some playfulness to my life!
