the moosh was invited by one of her little friends to Carb Day at the Indy track today. (Where carb refers to carburetor NOT the carbs in beer. WHOOPS. Naive? I am. However there is massive beer consumption, or so I hear. *ahem*)

I was excited to hear her report upon her return. I mean, hello? Dozens of cars headed straight for you at 225 miles per hour! Fast turns! LIKE THE PISTON CUP BUT IN REAL LIFE! What four year old wouldn’t LOVE THAT?

When she walked in the door I asked “How was it!? What did you see!?”

Her response?

None of the other boys wore shirts. Ewww.

Ah yes. The day my daugther learned about rednecks and race fans.

And I wasn’t even there.

  1. LOL!!! So cute that Moosh.

    Boys without shirts are icky.

    Too cute!

You’re lucky it wasn’t a Nascar race, though!

There will be some of us, however, that will be fully clothed on Sunday. Promise.

Also, I have lived in Indy my entire life and never bothered to even TRY and figure out what Carb day stood for. So, there’s that.

  4. Oh dear, that doesn’t even sound pleasant. lol

Carb does refer to carburetion, even though race cars haven’t had carburetors since I think the 60s. It’s just that tradition. Glad Moosh had fun.

  8. Tell her it’s because most of them drove up from my great state of Kentucky. :) Good luck today!

  9. Well if her 500 experiences have been anything like mine have been – she hit the nail on the head. Yay, rednecks.

  10. Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be plenty of local county fairs you can take Moosh too to further her red-neck career.

  11. Funny. That’s almost exactly what Brandon said when he got home from Carb day. Replace “boys” with “fat men” and it’s spot on.

  12. Hahahahaha. Love it. Moosh is a braver woman than I. I don’t think I could sit through something like that.

  15. I had never heard of Carburetion Day referred to as just “Carb Day” until you referred to it that way…I’d always just heard it said as Carburetion Day.

  16. Uh, yeah. I thought they served bagels and pasta or something. Thanks for the clarification.

  17. I was probably just a smidgen older than the moosh when my dad took me to the track for the first time. It was my first introduction to grown men peeing on anything not moving. Classy, classy stuff. Hope the moosh only noticed things above the waist line!

Also, in my youthful days, Carb Day was synonymous with Senior Skip Day . . . and come home smelling like barf day, now that I think about it. Good times.

  18. Ha! That’s cute, and a good lesson for anyone to learn.

  19. Too cute! We love NASCAR over here, but I have 2 boys, so I think I kinda have to love NASCAR ;)

  23. I never understood the whole racing thing. Watch cars go round and round a track for 2+ hours? No thanks. I’d rather see dudes get tackled and bleed! Tell your kid there are no shirtless men in football or hockey! :D

  24. The last time I was at the track, there were two balloons flying up…attached to a bra. So it could’ve been much, much worse! But seriously, there is nothing in the world that gives goose bumps as “Gentlemen, Start Your Engines.” Yes, it doesn’t make sense to watch cars travel around an oval, but once you’ve been there, you know why it’s called the greatest spectacle in racing.
