What is your biggest challenge when it comes to tidying up your house?

Mine? Is piles.

I have piles all over my house.

Piles of toys, piles of papers, piles of books…piles. piles, piles.

Don’t believe me?

WELL LET ME DIRECT YOU TO A VIDEO WITH TRISH SUHR TELLING ME TO GET RID OF THE PILES.

It’s one thing when your mom tells you to clean your room, it’s quite another thing when a perky blonde wearing pink with a thick southern accent admonishes you (and your husband) to get your act together. ON THE INTERNET.

FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.

Whatever, this opportunity has been the best one ever for me. To be able to talk out all my cleaning frustrations. Like that grayish blue furry crap everyone has on top of their fridge. You think my house is messy? GO LOOK ON THE TOP OF YOUR FRIDGE.

HA!

NO ONE IS IMMUNE!

  1. That’s a lot of stuff!

(I have cat hair on the top of my fridge. What doesn’t say make a sandwich like a layer of cat hair?)

  3. Love it!

  4. Again…you have the cutest voice in the world. I just want to put you in my pocket and ask you random questions all day to hear you talk.

  5. Cudos to you for letting the world see your mess. Although, looking at some of those organization shows, that’s not messy at all. I would be mortified if a camera crew came into my home! I am NOT June Cleaver!

  6. I totally have “the stuff” on top of my fridge. That’s gross.

But I am right there with you on the piles. And also, where are you supposed to put the clothes that are halfway between clean and dirty… that’s a tough one, and throwing them in the laundry feels really wasteful. Sigh.

I guess EVERYONE has cleaning troubles…

  8. You are so brave! I have piles and piles and piles. This is great motivation to find a home for all of it. Yay Casey!

  9. I have tons of piles and boxes from my recent move. Ok, so I moved on February 28, what’s wrong with that? LOL

I’m fed up with the mess and clutter, I’m cleaning today, or maybe tomorrow. It would be so much easier to do (and more fun) if I had a Dyson!

  15. I have that EXACT piano book on my piano! Awesome!

I loved how she said to get the dresser out of the closet. I would bet she hasn’t ever lived in a tiny apartment!

  16. My favorite part? (Cause it SO spoke to / of me)…

The pile of really important stuff to be dealt with eventually.

    At least you’re realistic. :)

  18. wow – you ARE brave! Yes, piles are a problem for me too…I’m too scared to let the world into my house though to prove it to you.

  19. I totally had to laugh at this because I am prone to piles of crap around my house as well. We moved last week and when we did, the tree outside shed leaves and little seed pods all over the top of the fridge. My hubby said “please clean the top before we bring it in” to which I replied “just push it in place, I will clean it later” Here it is a week later and guess what? I still have leaves and pods on my fridge. I think your post is trying to tell me something. I guess I’ll go clean my fridge. Thanks friend on the internet. Bahahaha!

  20. I can’t believe you just got schooled by Trish. She is awesome. I love Clean House! It makes me cringe a lot. And then it makes me want to purge.

  21. After reading this, I tried Pledge Multi-Surface on my piles.

I think I’ll stick to Prep-H from now on.

  22. You are too cute! I loved seeing a video of you- it made me miss you. And I’ve never seen your house, so I was loving the tour. (And Johnny does the same thing with his clothes- I find his little stashes of “not quite dirty” clothes and I just wash them anyway.)

  23. Ha. We too have little piles of clothes that are too dirty to put away but not dirty enough to wash. What the frick DO we do with those? She did not answer that pressing question.

    I think I need to get a shredder and in/out box too…

Loved the video! And loved your smiley faces.

  25. Ohhh, I’m a pile addict, too. And somehow I feel like I’m “cleaning” when I move the piles from one spot to another when I really should just thin out the piles in the first place.

  26. We’ve decided to just call our home “the landfill” rather than actually clean it. And yes, we have piles too even WITH clothes baskets.

  27. Oh my, I love you so much now! It’s so good to know I’m not the only one with piles of stuff everywhere.

punkinmamas last blog post..show and tell: messy

  28. You always make me laugh–but my biggest obstacle, easily, my husband. *big dramatic sigh*

  29. My house is always a pigsty – I just don’t have any time to do everything I want because when I get home from work at the end of the day so much other stuff takes priority (like, uh, feeding the kids). In fact, I’d bet you anything that my house is way worse than yours.

Next to not having enough time, I’d say my husband is my biggest challenge. I don’t mind so much that he doesn’t clean as well as I do (if he even does clean). What I do mind is not cleaning up after his own mess. Like making toast? He leaves crumbs all over the counter. And if I don’t clean it up it will stay there until I do – AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

  35. I have a HUGE problem with piles too! I spent 9 hours going through piles yesterday. I still was only able to eliminate a few of them and threw away less than a half of a trash can of junk but it’s a start.

  36. Dishes are my arch enemy! I let them pile up because I hate them so much, especially having to do the meat ones seperate from the dairy, it’s such a hassle! I’m proud of ou for dealing with your piles! maybe I’ll go wash up in the kitchen…

  38. I’m in charge of cleaning the bathroom (wife does laundry, I do bathroom)… problem is, her definition of a dirty bathroom is not the same as mine. Inevitably, she starts “reminding” me that the bathroom needs cleaning. She’s been reminding me for a few days. Actually, I promised to clean it on Monday and here we are on Thursday… Maybe I should get on that.

NOONE will come near my house with a camera, until I have finished the “company comin” cleaning…You know, I even organize the cabinet with all the plastic bowls and lids! You are a brave girl, hope you got a free shredder out of that or some of that pledge multi-surface (love that stuff) that stuff is expensive! AND don’t even let your kids dust with it, my son used a whole can in an hour and a half!

  40. You look so good! But I cannot believe you did that! They couldn’t PAY me enough to reveal my clutter on the Internet. Just. no. way.

I am glad it was helpful for you. I am afraid to look on the top of the fridge, but since I am short, what I don’t see can’t hurt us. Right? Right?!

  41. by the way, there’s no icky stuff on top of my fridge because Passover was only like a month ago and EVERYTHING in my kitchen from the tops of cabinets and fridge to under the stove was washed down with bleach water to get rid of Chometz (leavening i.e. any grain product)
