uhh 110k? sheesh, I live in cracktown and that is what houses are going for.. no really DA HOOD. I am teh jealous and your downstairs? I bet if you dress your hubs in pink v neck shirts and white shoulder padded suits you’d learn to accept it
My favorite neutral is White Hyacinth from Sherwin Williams. It’s a shade of white but there’s yellow to it so it’s warm – which is really nice when it’s cold outside.
You should look for giveaways/sweepstakes on appliances – what could it hurt? (OK, it might not be Electrolux, but they are laying off another 150 people in their Webster City, Iowa, plant, so I don’t feel like promoting them so much.)
Under, did you say UNDER 110k??? Where?? House for sale down the street?? I will come!! Wow…the house is gorgeous and nature-ahhh you gotta love that!!
Congrats!!!
Despite the HIDEOUS paint all over, it’s A FREAKING AWESOME HOUSE!!! Congrats!! Paint colors all depend on your furniture, but nature colors are always a hit in my book.
WHeeeeeeeee!!!!! You get to paint your OWN. HOUSE!!!!! You get to have a YARD. With grass. (and SPRINKLERS, if you were asking my little girl) Oh, and I so covet those Electrolux appliances right along with you. MAYBE you can find stuff with small dings or something in them and get um’ for cheap?? At any rate, SUPER happy for you and your new house! Sad to not have you in our ward soon.
In that case … check out Sherwin-Williams, they have a visualizer so you can see the colors in a room & even change the trim colors. http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/
Some of the ones I liked: Sticks & Stones; Harmonic Tan; Baize Green; Koi Pond; Refuge
wahoo! Congrats! That is freakin’ awesome…with wide open spaces (singing like the Dixie Chicks).
I am surprised that you don’t like the red/blue combo on the baseboards. Who does that honestly?
Love the layout, Casey. And you got a screaming deal – was it a short sale or foreclosure? The layout is good – can’t wait to see what you do with paint, floor coverings, light fixtures, faucets, etc. Putting some $$$ and love into it will be so good for the place.
Nice! Congrats, can’t wait to see the pictures once you’ve cleaned it up to your liking and added the awesome appliances. And some new paint, of course!
ok, listen to me carefully as I can explain those colors….
First of all, you need to do a quick search through a page or two of my blog and see the beautiful pumpkin orange that is my family room. Yes, I am not kidding. Pumpkin Orange. My mom’s kitchen is like crimson red like Alabama Crimson Tide Red – and you know, colors have equals so I was looking for the Auburn Orange not that I am an Auburn fan AT ALL, but I wanted that color of orange….
I got pumpkin orange. And, then…………I was broke and couldn’t afford to buy more paint so we had to just say to hell with it and make it work….
Fast forward to painting my children’s rooms. They are Mickey Mouse themed and they have these gorgeous yellow and blue walls and omg, please don’t have a heartattack but they make the dolphin room look really nice….but guess what….that was long ago and we figure the kids will want to pick our their own colors soon so we are just leaving them Mickey Mouse Yellow and Blue until which time they decide what they want….
back up a little more and there was the time my husband decided to paint the bathroom while I was gone somewhere as a surprise – he started with mint green and added a sea blue wall for effect
and surely I needn’t say anymore and you are feeling all well and good about your colors…hehehehe
Maybe I am your neighbor! Just kidding, I live in Indiana, but our nature doesn’t look that good out our back door. The house looks amazing (if you don’t focus on the paint colors) love all the space. My favorite neutral color is “New Penny”. It’s a rosy beige. Love it. Welcome Home!
Michele
First, consider what colors you like best, and what *sets* of colors. Clearly not pastel, and you mocked the brights too. Soft neutrals? Desert mutes? Earth tones? Go look at lots of paint strip samples at a store.
Since you’re adoring the Nature (I do too) then you might consider taking palettes from that. Forests are shades of green and brown touched with yellow; through your windows are lots of greens. A beach might be shades of cream and tan accented with light green, turquoise, and pink. A prairie is grass green, bright sky blue, white clouds, dotted with flower colors. Mountains are cool greys and whites with some dark green trees. Any of those can suggest ideas.
Also think about functions. A bedroom should be restful, so cool or earthy colors are good. Kitchens and living rooms benefit from livelier energy and warmer, brighter colors. A rec room can be bold and snazzy.
Just for comparison, my living room is done in forest shades: green shag carpet, wood paneling partway up the walls, and furniture in browns and a deep leafy blue-green. My office has ivory walls with light wood trim, variegated carpet in gold and orange tones, and a braided wall hanging in hot colors. Blue is my favorite color, so I use it a lot, but for my work space I want a bright high energy.
I’m with you on the paint and the carpet though. I have floorboards right throughout my place – and warm slippers – with a built-in vac which is the next best thing to Jesus, and my family, and …
You have been so blessed, I pray you have so much fun and many happy memories in that place – once you get rid of the nightmare-inducing colors
well i would love to be your neighbor! just promise me that the house down the street has the same awesome paint job and i’ll take it! mint green and peach was how my apartment was decorated in college! i’ll feel 19 again!
HOLY CRAP. You got a HUGE house for not a lot of money!
I will help you come paint. I have painted my whole house. You let me know when you want me and we’ll work it out. Gorgeous house!! I am so happy for you Casey!
Congrats on the new house! I wish I was there to help paint, I LOVE to paint Have fun shopping for new appliances too, that is something I wish I could do.
That house is BEAUTIFUL! YAY!!! (Um, well, yeah. Except for the paint. But you already knew that… WHO exactly thinks that red and blue with matching alternating trim colors is a GOOD idea? WHO???)
Under $110K? Are you serious? We’re looking for a new house right now and will have to spend around $275K for one just a bit bigger than yours! Indiana, here we come!
Moosh, congrats on your new very spacious home! How exciting for you and your fam. Your persistence and patience paid off.
Your home is a great example of the tremendous home values here in Indy. Thanks for all of the illustrations!
Yay for you!!! Congrats woman. That paint… I’m sorry. We just repainted our house. We did kind of an avacado-ish green and dark chocolate brown (which I’m not gonna lie, sometimes makes me want to lick my walls) in the living room, and a banana type yellow in the kitchen and down the hall. I love it. Good luck in the new casa!
It looks incredible, crazy paint colors and all. Congratulations!!! I’d move in a heart beat if it were anywhere near NYC.
Ah nature… I wake up to pounding neighbors, garbage taken out at midnight, dog owners walking their barking dogs and a ton of traffic on 1st Ave. Ah nature!
Congratulations, Casey! The space, the nature, the possibilities! Picking out paint colors is my all time favorite home improvement projects. Have fun – and make you stock up on the primer. I think you’re going to need it for those red and blue walls. Yikes.
It looks so lovely, besides the colors which look like jello. Upstairs, that’s cherry and blue raspberry. Downstairs is the anemic orange they give you in the hospital.
We’re in Chicagoland and the home values down there are almost enough to make me want to move to Indy. ;o)
So not fair. For a bit less than my down payment, you’ve gone and bought an entire house exactly (give or take 4 sq feet) TWICE the size of mine.
Oh, Los Angeles, how I hate you sometimes.
I will get over my jealousy however to tell you that your house? Looks AMAZING! And while painting SUCKS (which I can say with authority having painted the interior of my entire house a couple months back – it was full of peach walls too for some reason?) it will make things look SO much better than you even can imagine it might.
I would in a sec…your house is mucho humungouser than mine. Love that for you…you will be SO happy. I wish I could come help you paint…it is going to be a pain in the @$$ to paint over that red…oi…I can’t wait to see it in real life. I wish I could move down the street, would in a heartbeat! I love your house tho…it is perfect! CONGRATS!
2900 sq ft?
110K????
SO SICK WITH ENVY!!!
I am in love with your yard. I just showed the Husband your new home, and the price….he thinks we should move and be your new neighbours.
Wow!!! As someone who is ACTIVELY trying to sell her house, I can not BELIEVE anyone would have those colors in a house they were trying to sell. Egads! But, wow what a steal–2900 sq. ft for under 110k?? The house looks fabulous (well you know once you get rid of the um, questionable color choices). Congratulations!!!!!!!
Totally awesome, my friend, totally! I say go for a bold punch of color here and there, but over all neutrals. I know,I am so very helpful. If I knew hubs would move & we could sell our house I would so be there. All you had to say was “moosh bakes and less than 110K”
Casey, it’s gorgeous! GORGEOUS!! I am in awe of the space and openness and lighting and YARD and NATURE!
My first house had hot pink, fuschia, burgundy, blue, navy, olive, yellow and wood walls.
fer realz. All sort of mixed in together in random rooms. It hurt to walk in there.
I found a cafe’ au lait kindd of color that I loved and painted in most rooms, pale yellow in bebe room, butter in bathroom etc….
That Electrolux Virtual Laundry Tour? That’s what my new laundry room will look like in my new house. Except, no office beside the washer… a folding table instead.
oh my god i almost bought your house but it was in north carolina and i loved it just as much–for real–THE SAME HOUSE. must be the same builders. anywhoo–damn you mortgage company!!!
congratulations!
Wow – what a smokin’ deal! Congratulations on your new house. You’ll have to show us the after painting pictures. It’ll be like our own little blog version of HGTV. :>
Congratulations! I’m very jealous, and if only you were somewhere in northern Illinois, I just might consider moving in down the street, at those prices.
Just think, a year from now, your new carpet will be filled with YOUR old toenails! Enjoy!
Yay! I’m so excited for y’all. Seriously, SO FREAKIN EXCITED!
We move July 17th, and let me just tell you, the paint disaster we’re facing? WORSE. Oh, yes, it is. In good time I will share the joys of buying a home that someone else couldn’t afford to finish painting. Half blood red walls? We haz them.
Congratulations, Casey!!! That house is beautiful under all that paint. So much space! Such a huge backyard! It might not be perfect, this part of the country we live in, but the housing is sure affordable
Hooray! I’m so glad you’ve found a place to call home! You’ve worked so hard for this! As for the red & blue decor upstairs, I can only apply typical Hoosier logic and say that the former owners wanted to show their allegiance to IU as well as the Colts…this explains but does not justify the behavior, haha. Every time I run through the connecting neighborhoods of my parents’ IN home, I see that very same natural view…and miss it. Can’t wait to see how you put the Casey touch on it! (Oh, and if you’re looking for tile ideas, I can send you to my dad). Your readership expects an invite to the housewarming!
Ok, I am in Avon, 4 bedrooms, big yard… 5oo less square feet, WAY HIGHER PRICE! Then again… no pastel walls and opposites attract floor boards. Then again… for 110… I’d paint too!
Domestic Goddess (In Training)s last blog post..Scientific Proof
Oh, I wish!!! (We’re still stuck in the “we must sell our duplex before buying a new house” holding pattern. BOO.)
I had a pro graphic desginer friend help me pick out the paint for our current dining room – “Clay Pebble” from Behr. Its an AWESOME greenish color without being too “green-y” in case you’re looking for a great color.
Holy crap. Under 110K? When we were looking two years ago our goal was to get under 500K which meant a fixer-upper.
Beautiful new house you got yourselves!! Very exciting!
Regardless of the price (I WEEP) the house is so insanely awesome. The Nature and the space are off the hook. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. At least you don’t have to strip wall paper. Paint is easy.
congratulations, that all looks awesome. i am so jealous. i guess it’s easier to buy a new house when you don’t have to sell an old one….*pout*
can’t wait to see your new color scheme.
It looks great! But right now, I feel a deep seated need to know what the furniture looked like. And if the owners had a mullet and/or wore a banana clip. And tied their t-shirt at the waist.
Woo hoo, nature! I was the same way when we moved from NYC to Alabama. I kept opening the door to smell outside. Our family room was Barney Purple when we bought the house. Yeah.
The red and blue room is in my college colors! I’m cracking up that they did the baseboards in opposing colors! You’re going to LOVE homeownership! Congrats!!!
I would love to be your neighbor! And for that price?!! Are you kidding me? Sadly, I don’t live anywhere near Indy. Congrats on the new house though – have fun painting!
Ok, under $110K???? Where do you live again? We couldn’t even get a garage here for that money – thus we overpay for a small apartment. The house looks fab, and I could totally fly over and bunk in that two tone room (wth were they thinking) and paint it for you
I am beyond jealous. Under 110K? In my area there is NOTHING under 110K. It doesn’t exist. Well, let me take that back. In the past 6 months, about 10 properties under 110K have come up for sale. All of them are about 800-1000 square feet, built in 1895-1910 (meaning they’re old/deteriorating, not classic/historical).
One of my favorite colors is Sherwin Williams’ Copen (or it may be Copel) Blue. It’s a really nice, soft color that’s not too blue; it has some nice undertones to it. Nothing frilly at all.
It’s particular pretty when paired with a black and white toile or damask pattern (for drapes or a shower curtain or bedspread, etc).
[...] you read on my main blog that I just got a new house and requested that Electrolux appliances appear in the currently blank appliance spots in my new [...]
That price is awesome. I live in Iowa and the prices are low here but not that low. There is an awesome color at Benjamin Moore called Olive Branch. My friend painted her living room that color with creamy white trim and dark hardwood floors. I am in love! Benjamin Moore has an online personal color viewer. I don’t buy their paint but I love their colors. Congrats!
WHOOOOHOOOO, Casey! I’m late again on the big news, but I’ve been smashed moving into my OWN new Casa de Mayhew, including NATURE and NEW PAINT and a MOUSE!
Love the new digs, huge congrats, so happy for the whole of you.

****! All that for under $110K? That’s it. We’re moving back to Indy.

Um, yeah, $110k won’t get you a studio condo in Vermont. You are the luckiest girl on the planet.

Congratulations!

Hot deal that is! I love the way the stairs don’t face the front door and the bonus room over the garage. Congratulations.

Congrats!
