pony ride black sheep baby mini donkeys equine dreams funnel cake alley

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

  1. Those funnel cakes look AMAZING!

    Casey Reply:

@AmazingGreis, They had been sitting out all day, let’s just say I’m a pretty good at photographing old things to make them look, uh, “younger.”

  2. Funny you should have fair funnel cake, because dude, I learned how to make funnel cake at home yesterday. And now I weigh 3000 pounds.

But there are no ponies here, so I guess the fair still has some allure.

I have to ask, did you have the chocolate bacon? Because I do not understand how that can be edible, please enlighten.

    Casey Reply:

@Overflowing Brain (Katie), The chocolate covered bacon will be tried. After all the grease from the funnel cake makes it out of my pores.

  3. I could look at your photography all day. I really love the vintage style of these shots! They fit in so well with the state fair theme.

    Casey Reply:

@Camels & Chocolate, Thank you! I know it’s not “true” photography, but sometimes it just fits.

  4. Yum yum yum I want those funnel cakes.

And is that blueberries or chocolate on that cake in the middle?

    Doesn’t matter. I’d eat it.

    Casey Reply:

    @ClassyFabSarah, Blueberries! Yes! Calories! NOM!

    ClassyFabSarah Reply:

    @Casey, I LOVE calories!

  5. I can NOT wait for our county fair to start!! I know it’s nothing like the ISF, but still. The biggest thing I’m looking forward to is OM NOM NOMMING on some elephant ears.

    Casey Reply:

@Joe @ Irrational Dad, A fair is a fair and fairs are awesome.

  6. Oh, I love the picture of the two girls from the back. So sweet! I love the fair, too. We went to a farm that was having a 4H fair while we were in DC. I had a freshly fried donut and we all shared a funnel cake. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

    Casey Reply:

@Jen L., Those little kids are even cuter from the front. Just sayin’.

  7. I love the state fair – I’m just SO excited to go this Saturday. I’ve already planned out what I want to eat and everything!

    Casey Reply:

@Jess, You and I would get a long jussst fine.

  8. Any deep-fried Snickers bars? Mmmmmmm…..

    Casey Reply:

@Avitable, Yes! I have pictures. However the deep fried Peanut Butter Cup was better.

  9. Your now annual posts about the state fair make me want to go to the state fair, lol

    Casey Reply:

@Midwest Mommy, You come, I’ll take you. We’ll eat. You’ll go home with gas, three extra pounds and a smile.

  10. Great. it’s 9am and I realy want a funnel cake. Thanks Casey.

  11. We’re going to the state fair next Friday. I can’t wait! I just hope the weather is nice. It is such a great time of year. The corndogs and roasted corn and watching the kids eyes light up. It is so great.

    Casey Reply:

@Melissa Weisbard, Corn. Yes. Fair corn probably makes all the other corn feel inadequate.

  12. I’m going tomorrow night and can’t wait! I do believe I will be trying the chocolate covered bacon. You know, for the good of society and all.

    Casey Reply:

@Just Shireen, Yes. Society. It’s set up right next to the fried Pepsi and fried Zoloft.
I mean, well, at least Pepsi.

  13. I love that last picture of the funnel cakes the best. It looks awesome. Definitely raises some nostalgia and hunger issues.

    Casey Reply:

@Ami, Would it help the hunger issues if I told you they had been out in the sun all day? And were kind of slimy and crusty?

  14. Beautiful photos as always. Looking forward to seeing more from the day. Did you lug around a tripod this year?

    Casey Reply:

@Rick, Tripod comes with me next week when I can go by myself and do night shots. I’m oddly excited about the prospect.

    Rick Reply:

@Casey, I hear that bit about going it alone, tripod and family don’t easily mix in crowded settings.

  15. Adore the last 2 shots especially. Our state fair starts… well, today, I think.

    Casey Reply:

@C @ Kid Things, Did you go?

  16. The Indiana State Fair is my happy place.

    Casey Reply:

@DesignHER Momma, The Indiana State Fair with you is my happy place. That and Cracker Barrel somewhere in Tennessee (Kentucky?)

  17. Hurray for pony rides! I am trying to arrange to take my kids there next week. It’s a big part of my youth, and I really want the kids to see “my” fair!

    Casey Reply:

@Angie, Oh I’ll be dragging the moosh back year after year even when she thinks it’s laaaame.

  18. I can not wait for the fair to start here. Funnel cake, snow cones, and every possible bbq combo you can think of..YUM! September can’t come fast enough.

    Casey Reply:

@Marnie, Do you have chocolate covered bacon? Because we do.

  19. The funnel cake photo? The FUNNEL CAKE photo? That is my porn. Mmmmmmmhmmmmmm.

    Casey Reply:

@Burgh Baby, see previous replies in regards to those funnel cakes sitting out all. day. long.

  20. Love the first photo! So great!

    And yummm….funnel cakes….

    Casey Reply:

@Mrs Soup, Thank you! I’m so proud of her proper equestrian from.

  21. Awesome shots! Our county fair is next week and I look forward to taking the girls at least one day.

P.S. I had the weirdest dream about you last night. Seriously odd. Will probably blog about it if I don’t lose all the details.

    Casey Reply:

@Heather @ Domestic Extraordinaire, Ooh, was it like a cool pregnant dream or just a random one?

    Domestic Extraordinaire Reply:

@Casey, random-very strange and totally random.

  22. Oh how I love the fair! And fair food! Sigh.

    Casey Reply:

@Meredith, A sign tonight (yes I went back) said “Fair Food is Fun Food”
Really? It is. And probably the reason America is pretty fat.

  23. Can I just tell you how inspiring your pictures are?! It makes me ready to drop everything but my camera for the day!

    Casey Reply:

@Em, Thank you! And yes! No dropped cameras please! (Or babies!)

  24. Did you go yesterday? We spent 11 (yes, I said ELEVEN) hours there yesterday. I was the one yelling “Red Light!!” at two 4-yr-olds tearing through the Expo Hall like it was Show Biz…But it was still a GREAT day!.

    Casey Reply:

    @Darling, You are HARDCORE.

  25. I will be in Indy in two weeks. I can’t believe I am missing the state fair. I LOVE fairs.

    Casey Reply:

@Natalie, You’ll just barely miss it! And it goes SO long this year! (the 23rd)

  26. Did you see the Z-Animal Crossing Donkeys at the Fair?? They are our close family friends.. yeah i’m a silly country girl:)Bring on the fair!!

    Casey Reply:

@Tiffany, Yes! But I would have felt a little weird to be all “HI SOMEONE ON TWITTER KNOWS YOU!”
    But yes. I saw them.
