In the past 24 hours I have managed to keep down Jello and toast. WHEE!

My belly is very near herniating thanks to a little something called diastasis recti. (The wikiCaseypedia version? This crap hurts something fierce.)

There’s the poop.

And then there’s the sleepy. (Which has actually been vastly improved upon switching from a generic version of my antidepressant to the name brand.)

See also: antenatal depression and anxiety.

So this morning while wallowing in my misery and attempting not to moo or make various beached whale noises I declared that I pretty much stink at being pregnant even though I love it.

So I started to think about all the stuff that’s going right…

silver lining

I don’t pee when I barf, or cough or sneeze. I consider this a victory.

I look pregnant. I have one friend who is so tall and has such a long torso that she never even looked pregnant at 40 weeks, just kind of…puffy.

I also don’t get swollen. (Or haven’t yet.) I can still see my ankle bones, although shaving them has become re-darn-diculous.

Heartburn? Eh, it happens on occasion, nothing that a couple of Tums won’t fix.

No stretch marks. (Again, yet.)

No gestational diabetes.

No other major medical maladies to speak of, well aside from the chronic barfing, but I’m pretty much pro by now.

And the biggest one? I’ve made it to 31 weeks. I am 31 weeks pregnant after trying for over five years to get here. I’m more than halfway! I’m more than 3/4 of the way! And wonderful people have been taking care of me all along. From my friends here locally, to the friends and family all over who have played along in the Mozzi celebration that Emily organized…I am good, I am thankful, I am blessed.

Albeit a little queasy.

Pass the Jello.

xoxo to you all.

  1. The home stretch, what a wonderful feeling.

    Casey Reply:

@JaeJay, aside from the literal stretching, because that is kind of ow. :)

  2. Congrats!! You are further along than I got with Amos. What a blessing it is to still be pregnant with a healthy baby!!!

    Casey Reply:

@Sarah partain, I’m so thankful for everyday she stays in there feeding off my life force.

  3. Yay for silver linings and not wetting yourself!! Success in my books ;)

    Casey Reply:

@Kimberly, Never did I think “not wetting myself” would be a victory, at least not until I was geriatric.

  4. Happy 31 Weeks! So so excited for you!

    Casey Reply:

@ClassyFabSarah, 31 weeks is kind of like 31 flavors…Baskin Robbins anyone?

  5. Congrats on making 31 weeks!!! I’m so stoked for you!

    Casey Reply:

    @Mrs. Wilson, Thank you!!

  6. You are definitely in the homestretch! I am sorry that pregnancies are so hard on you- you bear it well. The bright side things are great, though, keep focusing on them! Healthy baby!! Pretty healthy mama!! (No GD, no preeclampsia, etc.) I’m amazed that you don’t get chronic heartburn and that you don’t pee when you barf or sneeze or cough! Even when I’m not pregnant I still pee a little when I sneeze if I don’t cross my legs in time. (TMI). I’m so happy that you’re almost done, though. :)

    Casey Reply:

@Barb @ getupandplay, the whole peeing your pants thing is really just a roundabout way of keeping you a lady with crossed legs.
Don’t worry, there will be some pee come those first few postpartum weeks. I’m sure of it.

  7. Yikes! Closer to the end than the beginning. I better sew faster. Her quilt needs to be there when she arrives!!

    Casey Reply:

@Shelley, This post was just to make you sew faster, WORK SHELLEY WORK! (I kid of course.) xoxo

I’m so happy for you!! I’m also VERY JEALOUS about the no stretch marks and not peeing when you sneeze/cough/laugh/move/breath/etc. ;) Hope you feel better soon.

    Casey Reply:

@mommabird2345, Seriously, apparently I lucked out with the pee thing!

  9. So glad you have found the silver lining and made it to 34 weeks. Only 9 or less to go!!!! Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Heather @ 3 Kids and lots of pigs Reply:

    @Heather @ 3 Kids and lots of pigs, I meant 31 weeks. :-)

    Casey Reply:

@Heather @ 3 Kids and lots of pigs, I knew what you meant, and 34 will be here before I know it.

  10. Plus Mozzi is super cute! And she obviously also enjoyed the firework bath fizzy thingy.

    Casey Reply:

@Bridget, no one’s noticed the firework coming out of my bum…

  11. love you, and so glad you are nearing the end of the carrying the baby on the inside part!

    Casey Reply:

@Frelle, I may be miserable some days, but she can stay inside, it’s safer, cheaper, healthier and easier in there.

  12. Congratulations on getting to 31 weeks. Baby is almost done!

    Keep eating the kiwis.

    Casey Reply:

    @Penbleth, Stocked up at Costco!

  13. Thank you for your link to diastasis recti. I now know why my stomach from the belly button down seems to have split and one side is larger than the other (for want of a better description). It has only taken nearly 16 years to find this out (that is how old my youngest is).

Congrats on being 31 weeks and not peeing.

    Casey Reply:

@Michelle, Dude, thank one of my commenters, she’s the one who alerted me to the possibility. Love the Internet.

  14. I am going to do my best to make the next 9 weeks FREAKIN AMAZIN for you!

    Love ya!

    Casey Reply:

    @designhermomma, done and done.

  15. You’re so hot when you don’t piss yourself.

Thanks for the smiles your words always bring me. You’re like a knocked-up present.

    Yay for me! :)

    Casey Reply:

@Kirsten (results not typical girl), I think anyone who doesn’t pee themselves is already higher up in the hot book than the incontinent type. Well, that’s not true, I have one friend who had kidney stones and I still love her even though she dribbles occasionally.

  16. I can’t imagine the pain you are feeling. It will all magically not seem so bad once that baby is in your arms. Have a shot of jello for me!

    Casey Reply:

@Leah @ Beyer Beware, Oh honey, I had a bowl full for you.

  17. I’ve birthed three babies who prove you CAN successfuly gestate healthy humans on nothing but jell-o, toast, crackers, and canned pears.

Look at sexy you, 31 weeks and with dry drawers, too! I can’t believe it’s so close. Other people’s pregnancies seem to go so fast.

    Casey Reply:

@Adrienne, I made at least one healthy contribution to society comprised only of Velveeta Shells and Cheese and Gatorade.

  18. Weeee! So excited for you! 31 weeks is a huge accomplishment in itself! The not peeing yourself and the no stretch marks are huge bonuses!

    Casey Reply:

@punkinmama, I’m going with the no pee as a huge accomplishment as well. Kegels FTW!

  19. Dear Casey,

Last week I found myself thinking “I wonder if Casey can poop yet.” Feel special.

    Casey Reply:

    @Molly, Dear Molly,
    Nope. Circle of trust.
    Love, Casey

  20. My favorite part of this post? The “I don’t pee when I barf, or cough or sneeze. I consider this a victory”
I would consider it a victory if I could just think about doing those things without peeing.
Take what you can get at this point, right?!

  21. Oh how I wish I could tell you that I didn’t pee when I barfed, so we are just going to avoid that subject.

You are a rock star and I can’t wait to meet Mozzi!!

  22. So happy for you… SO happy for you!

Not to get morbid but I had the most sad terrible dream about you last night… You, babes, Addie and Cody… I’m not kidding when I say the dream was ALL NIGHT, at LEAST 5+ hours of my time sleeping was spent dreaming about you four and it was so sad. I just woke up in awe and had to message you and make sure that everything is okay… because quite frankly, I didn’t like the dream, one bit. SO, I read this, and all sounds wonderful, minus the sick.

Sorry for the strange comment… I’ll elaborate on the dream if you want, but quite frankly, it’s probably better left unsaid, I’m just glad all is okay in your world! :)

  23. Hmm…. not peeing when you barf, cough or sneeze. That is HUGE. I can’t even say I’ve got that covered. And let’s not talk about stretch marks.

    So… what’s your favorite jello?

  24. I won’t lie…not peeing every time I sneeze is sort of a bonus from getting my C-section…if there are bonuses, of course.

So high five for not having involuntary urination!

  25. I too have had a bumpy road to getting pregnant (or should I say, staying pregnant) and while I am grateful and feel incredibly lucky to have made it this far as well, I am not a fan of actually being pregnant. It doesn’t agree with my body and I simply don’t “glow.” But we’re almost there right? So forge on we must. :)

  26. You’re SOOOO CLOSE! Hooray! Plus, congrats on not puking your jell-o.

  27. I’m so excited for you, and not just about keeping down jell-o.

  28. Amy in StL says:

Wow, I can’t believe you’ve been at it 31 weeks! If you haven’t tried the blackberry jello, get on it.

  29. You are really almost there – only six weeks until you’re considered full-term!

  30. I’m just impressed that you don’t have any stretchmarks! And a little jealous about it, actually.

  31. Awwww, Casey. Gotta love that silver lining of a miracle life who’s almost ready to meet you! <3 u.

  32. Oh, I am so glad to read this! Aside from the barfing, of course. (Which I did this morning in my office … and let’s just say that I haven’t achieved the ability NOT to pee my pants when I puke). Love your illustration! Love following along on your journey! xo

  33. I read the link about diastasis… good lord, girl, when you do something, you do it SPECTACULARLY! However, I imagine that could make for cool pictures of very clearly delineated baby parts sticking out.

  34. A friend of yours who read one of my “Pour my heart out” blogs and suggested I come follow yours. We have been trying for over a year [I know, not long compared to 5] and it’s been a really hard journey, especially when everyone else is getting pregnant including my closest friend who just had a baby 3 months ago.. She told me that you would be a really great person to follow so here I am. I love your blogs. They are so real and I am so happy that you got pregnant after such a long time, it makes me feel like there is hope <3

  35. I can’t believe you’re almost there. WOO. HOO!!!!

  36. hot diggity! ;-)
    love you
