We now interrupt this wompy, sad and depressed blog momentarily for a giveaway which is near and dear to my wompy, sad and depressed heart.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is coming to Indianapolis THIS FRIDAY (June 14th) for the first time in ONE HUNDRED YEARS.

This is very big news.

If you’ve never heard the MoTab live, well.

It will basically change your life. I kid you not.

(No, really, I’m not just saying that because I’m a Mormon. My agnostic mother once got mad at me because I didn’t take her to more Tabernacle performances.)

I have two tickets to give away.

They will be singing ‘Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing’ which is basically the most amazing hymn ever written and it will make you feel things all the way down to your toenails.

But don’t worry, they’ll also be singing super traditional American Folk Songs and Sunrise, Sunset.

I MEAN. SUNRISE, SUNSET.

I will be photographing the show with a lens as big as my right thigh.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, or if you’re feeling lucky, leave a comment below for a chance to win two tickets to the show.

Amy is also giving away tickets. So is Heather. And the other Heather.

To make things interesting, why don’t you tell me what your thoughts are on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, have you heard of them? Have you ever seen them live? Did you know they did the opening song in Madagascar? Born Free? They were all the animated penguins with bowties?

This is very big. I hope you can make it and I hope you enjoy it. Bring tissues. I’m going to have to, clearly.

WAY too many emotions going on right now to leave home without them.

Winner will be picked at noon on Thursday June 13th. Good luck!

I would love to see the choir live. I’ve never had the chance to and have heard how amazing they are.

  2. I would totally drive to Indy to see them as they are on my list of things that I need to do someday. Each and every time I hear them I get goosebumps and then I get the willies because I hate getting the goosebumps, but I will put up with the goosebumps for the MoTab. I have never seen them live. I did not know that they sang the opening to Madagascar, now I am going to have to watch Madagascar to listen, but in my defense I only watched it once and my nephew was busy telling me the things that I needed to watch for that were funny in the movie, and then he realized (bless his heart) that he was telling me about another movie.

  3. Pick me, pick me! I made it to Temple Square this past December on a business trip to Provo, but wasn’t able to score tix for the choir. Would LOVE to see them at home.

  4. Don’t pick me…not local. But, had to pop on and suggest downloading the Sufjan Stevens (sp?) version of “Come Thy Fount…” So fantastic!

Enjoy the show and lots of love from The Lou!

  5. I would love to see them live. 13 is my lucky number. I hope it proves to be true this Thursday. :)

So, I didn’t buy tickets because I didn’t know if I’d be off work , but it turns out I AM off work this Friday so if I won two tickets I’d actually have something wonderful to do instead of staying at home and watching some silly movie. Not that Pride and Prejudice is silly, but I have watched it only about 50 times already! Wish me luck!

  7. I know nothing about them, but I love music and would love to attend.

  8. I would love to win tickets to see them! Thanks :-)

  9. I would ride a tricycle to Indianapolis from Dallas to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing. And I’m a Baptist, so there.

Actually, I just applied for a job in Indianopolis and I was hoping this giveaway would bring me some luck, like some good Mormon ju-ju or something. And if not luck, then maybe just a smile from you.

  10. Jenni Mamph says:

My hubby suggested going to Indy this weekend – this seems like a PERFECT thing to do while there!! I hope I win!

  11. I have never seen the Mormon Tabernacle Choir live but I have heard of them. My mother would love to go to this with me.

  12. I’ve never seen them, but I’d love to go. I think it’d be a fun birthday gift for DH.

  13. I’ve never seen MTC but love their music!

I do have a funny story about a mix up with them though. I once worked for a local radio station that was a Rock-N-Roll format. Think Nickelback, ACDC, etc. My job was to program all of the commercials and special programming. Well, apparently, the code for Mormon Tabernacle Choir is quite similar to the one the one for a local car dealership. So, instead of going into a spot about cars, you hear this grand choir music ringing through the “Devil Station”‘s airwaves. I’ve never seen the General Manager move so fast and they still haven’t let me forget about it to this day!

  14. Christine Weaver says:

I saw them in Cincy a few years ago with the Cincy symphony. Really amazing. I remember them singing some African spiritual. Not only amazing that a bunch of wacky Mormons were singing an African spiritual, but they also had coordinated their movements to reflect some of the song. Of course they soudned awesome as well.

  15. Solducky says:

I have never seen them but would really love to do so!

  16. I would love to see MoTab! I have always wanted to see them live. I just can’t afford it and, knowing that they will probably never come back to Indy, I will probably never get to see them. As a choir geek (I lettered in Choir in high school), this would just be the icing on the cake and one of the things I could get off my bucket list.

  17. As a Mormon myself, MoTab is pretty awesome, of course! I’ve heard them perform in the Conference Center in Utah, but never a full on concert. Should be great! Hope I win, since my hubby and I are just a little too poor to buy tickets. Also, fun tidbit, my husband was seriously considering auditioning to be in the choir when we lived in Utah.

  18. Denise Wilson says:

Would LOVE to win! I have heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir before. BEAUTIFUL!!
Plus, I’ve been wanting to hear the ISO, as well. Thank you for the chance to win!

  19. laura carr says:

This would be great! Date night for free! :)

  20. Laura Carr says:

@laura carr, I can tell you I have little knowledge of this choir, other than hearing them on tv in the past! I love how choral music can move you!
