**This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Dreyer’s/Edy’s® Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute**
Three years ago I figured that living next to one other family with young children in my new situation (halfway across the country in order for my husband to attend law school.) should be considered a blessing. We found our apartment through a recommendation from them and were completely unaware until we moved here that our entire complex of apartments is filled with young families in similar situations. Whether it be dental school, law school, medical school or any other graduate program we were able to relate to each other and help each other through tests, graduations and board exams.
When the weather turns nice our winding streets turn into a sort of stroller and bike parade. Stopping to chat with the couple who just had a new baby, or letting another child come along on a bike ride with us so that their parents can finish up the dishes. It’s almost idyllic how we live, gathering at the park for BBQs on balmy summer nights, or setting off fireworks together on the 4th of July. As the moms we are never lacking adult interaction, babysitters, lunch dates, advice or a cup of sugar.
We learned immediately when we moved in that our neighbors spoke with food. Cookies, the makings for ice cream sundaes, breads and candies. We didn’t go hungry our first week here and on my birthday two weeks ago I had several different friends show up with several different treats. We’re no different, every time we get a new neighbor we are on their doorstep with brownies or a bowl of spaghetti. Something about watching out for each other before anyone even needs to ask.
As we get ready to move I’m anxious about having new neighbors. But at the same time I’m grateful to my neighborhood for teaching me about what a true neighbor is, an extension of family and friends left behind, thousands of miles away. People to share little victories with and people who notice if you happen to have a flat tire. Being a good neighbor is coming out to a scraped car or a shoveled walk the morning after it snows, and returning the favor when you get the chance.
I’m going to miss my ever changing neighborhood, but before we leave, you’d better believe we’re going to celebrate.
What about your neighborhood? Are you the social butterfly? Or the silent one who swoops in with snow shovel in hand? Do you wish that you could throw your neighbors a party? Well Dreyer’s/Edy’® ice cream is going to give you that chance. For the fifth year in a row they will be saluting great neighborhoods with a doorstep delivery of Dreyer’s/Edy’s® Slow Churned® Light ice cream (with half the fat than regular ice cream Slow Churned® gives neighbors even more reason to celebrate!). The package includes all of the fixings (cups, bowls, scoops, etc. and of course, ice cream, to host a summer block party for up to 100 guests.) What better way to become the MVN (most valuable neighbor) than by winning one of 1,500 ice cream parties for you and your neighbors?
The details?
In order to win Neighborhood Salute, tell Dreyer’s/Edy’® why their neighborhood deserves to win a party in 350 words or less.
Visit Visit www.SlowChurned.com to enter to win an ice cream party for your neighborhood!
For you people West of the Rockies this means entering with Edy’®
And for those of you on the West Coast and in Texas (YEE HAW) this means entering with Dreyer’®.
With the challenges facing the nation, people are turning to the support of friends and neighbors more than ever. Ice cream serves as a sweet social connection that breaks the ice and empowers neighbors to build and strengthen relationships that lead to stronger communities. Whether you know of neighbors in need, are hoping to “mend some fences,” or are simply looking for an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate strong neighborly bonds, hosting a Dreyer’s/Edy’s® Slow Churned® Neighborhood Salute can both spark and strengthen camaraderie on your block.
I’ll be awarding ten readers here at moosh buys and tries a coupon good for a 1.5 qt of Dreyer’s/Edy’s® Slow Churned® ice cream ($7 value,) before you head on over to win the neighborhood salute, leave a comment here telling me your favorite flavor of ice cream and you’ll be entered to win one of ten coupons.

GAH! it would help if I actually did you what you said, and put my favorite flavor. It’s cinnamon. But like, nobody makes cinnamon ice cream, except Maggie Moo’s, which I used to frequent weekly when I lived up near you and worked in a building attached to Circle Center Mall. Mmmm. Cinnamoo with pecan and coconut.
Gar, what have you done! Gave a broke pregnant lady cravings for something they don’t have in Dallas! EVIL!
But I digress, again. As far as actual buyable types of ice cream, like ones that Dreyer’s makes… Caramel Praline Crunch. And Eggnog, when it’s available.
