moosh in indy.

brandi carlisle album giveaway.

I’ve really gotten into the whole singer/songwriter genre of music lately. I can’t go too crazy with music since I generally have an opinionated child in the back seat and one can only take Radio Disney for so long before the desire to melt ones ears off with hot pokers becomes appealing.

She really likes “girl singers” and I really like mellow, so when Barbara Jones of One2One network told me I “HAD TO” try out the new Brandi Carlisle album I said “Yes Ma’am.” My friend Emily was already a huge Brandi Carlisle fan and since I trust her taste as well I downloaded my (free (disclosure!)) copy of her album.

My first listen to it was in the car on a date with my husband, it was sort of background music. And it was swell background music. I don’t speak music, but it’s the kind of music that would be in the background of a show or movie and you would think to yourself “HUH, I KINDA LIKE THAT.”

Later when I was out with my kid I took to time to actually listen to the words. My favorite verse?

If you were my boat in the deep blue sea
I’d probably sink you down
I know I should have thanked you for carrying me
But for you I would happily drown
from the song “If There Was No You”

Given the recent tumult of my relationship, these particular words rang pretty true. Not sure what Brandi meant when she wrote them but I know what they mean to me.

If you want to find out more about Brandi Carlisle and her upcoming album Give Up the Ghost you can check her Facebook page here, her website here and when you’re ready? You can preorder her album here.

I will pick one winner at random Friday October 30th and midnight EST. Good luck! (And it’s totally open to anyone.)

I haven’t heard of Brandi Carlisle before but I do like this genre of music. I will listen to the album mostly in my car, I think. That’s typically the only place I get to listen to music in peace!

I haven’t heard of her, but I do love musicians with well-written lyrics. I’ll probably listen on the train home. It is so relaxing to have good music on my iPod on the way back from work.

I love Brandi’s music! Thanks for sharing this contest!!

Yes, I have heard of Brandi before. I love listening to her when I’m doing homework or heading off to bed. :) Thanks for this great opportunity!

Oops! I have heard of her and love her music. I will probably listen to her the most in the car. Hoping for another road trip soon! :)

I haven’t hear of her before, but I love finding new music to listen to. Thanks for sharing.

Normally I listen to music the most while I’m driving, but since the holiday season is approaching I’d probably listen to it the most in the kitchen during one of my holiday bake-a-thons.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brandi Carlisle. I listen to her at least once a day. She helps me not lock my children in a closet.

Nope, but she’d for sure make it into my homework/coding mix.

Love, love, love “The Story” — makes my eyes tear and my breath hitch every time. <3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq-ZmAYLeB8

I love Brandi Carlisle!

This is my first time hearing of her-If she reminds you of Indigo Girls- I’ll love her :-)

I have never heard of her but I will give it a go :-)

The wife is obsessed with Brandi. This comment = love. Carry on.

I love love love love Brandi. I listen to her while sewing or painting in my craft room, or while driving down route 1 with the windows down. Please pick me!!!

i have some of her songs from various soundtracks (grey’s, sisterhood of the traveling pants) and love the songs i have! good relaxation music when reading or just laying around. now i’ve got my fingers crossed for this giveaway!

I had a season pass to Greys during well every season but the season she did The Story music video for them and have had that song on my ipod since then. I (heart) greys music. Anyway you’ve got me checking out her other stuff.

I love brandi carlisle – I discovered her about two years ago when randomly searching for music while procrastinating instead of writing a paper. I dont know if you know about pandora.com, but I like to put it on a brandi carlisle station and its generally good background music while i’m doing school work.

I have not heard of Brandi before, but I would probably listen while in the carpool line at the elementary school, the 2nd option would by my kitchen cd player whilst doing dishes.

i love her first album & would listen to her in the house.

I have never listened to her before but I love singer/songwriters. I would listen it to the most in the car.

I LOVE Brandi Carlile! I downloaded a single of her’s off iTunes because it was free and it quickly became one of my favorite songs. And I just love her song “The Story.” There’s a raw and honest quality to her voice. I’d listen to her cd around the house whislt crafting…and of course I’d sing along.

Brandi has been on Grey’s Anatomy a few times and I’ve always LOVED hearing her in the background there. But as a writer I have found that her music also works for mellow background writing music.

She’s got quite the voice. Smart move listening to your friends on that one.

I’d listen in the car.

I am a HUGE fan of Brandi. I typically listen to her on road trips – very good driving music!

I haven’t heard of her, but I love mellow and I love interesting lyrics, and like the Moosh, I like “girl singers.”

I’d listen to her when driving to get my son from school…before he gets in the car and asks for his music.

I first heard her via an iTunes weekly freebie. I love her voice and would love to win her new record.

Please don’t enter me– I already have this album and have seen her perform it TWICE. I just can’t say enough good things about Brandi, and if you get the chance to see her in person, DO THAT. She’s AMAZING in concert.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I hadn’t heard of her before you wrote about her…I am loving her voice!! I would listen to her in the car, while working…really anytime!!

I have heard of her before. I am a huge fan of talented female vocalists. I’d listen in my car as I go on my many mini excursions through MN.

Ooh, we love Brandi Carlile around here. I first heard her on VH1 a year or two ago and since then, she’s been in rotation for both me and Johnny. I listen to her in the car or when I clean the house (both instances when I sing along LOUDLY and embarrassingly.)

I wish I would be listening while making out. Perhaps I could listen to her and daydreaming about making out? It’s been a while…

I have heard her and I do love her. I will listen to it driving, making out and cleaning house….

I love Brandi! I was obsessed with her last album during my first pregnancy… I even took it to the hospital with me!

Sounds good to me!

I haven’t heard of her but I know I would love her. I spent all of high school and college playing indigo girls on repeat. My 2 year old is getting really into singing along to music and I would love to have something new around here!

Oh, I saw her in concert a couple weeks ago and she was AMAZING>

I freaking LOVE Brandi Carlisle!!!!! The Story, Tragedy, Josephine, Closer to You… Her voice is divine, her lyrics powerful. She touches my soul.

Love, love, LOVE Brandi. I actually saw her live for 3 songs (including your fav above) when my coworker won tickets to a private, small concert through WTTS. We went at lunch one day, and she was GREAT! I have been wanting this cd, but I haven’t been able to justify spending the money on myself. Sad. :(

I love Brandi. I knew I was going to marry my husband when he played her song “The Story” from the album of the same name. I was right, and we danced to that song on our wedding day.

Thanks for letting a whole new group of people know about Brandi’s music. She sounds like she’d definitely add a new dimension to an otherwise crappy commute through the bowels of the New York City transit system. I need all the uplifting I can get down there.

Miss you. Come visit me soon. You’ve been on my mind.

Road trips to St. Louis. She has a great voice.

First time I’ve heard of her but I like it! Thanks for the suggestion!

Sounds intriguing! I’ll definitely have to looks her up.

I have never heard of her, but would like to! I usually listen in the car, I just moved and don’t know any good radio stations!

I recognize the name but not totally sure if I have heard her or not. Sounds awesome though! For a few other wonderful (in my opinion) “girl singers”, try Imogen Heap, Nora Jones, and for something a little kickier try Regina Spektor.

the first time I heard of Brandi was because of Grey’s Anatomy. That’s where I first heard “the Story” and fell in love with the song. I also have an itunes free download by Ha-Ash feat. Brandi, called “already home”. I really like her stuff. I listen to her when it comes up on my ipod… so whenever!

I’ve heard of her and her song “What can I say” was my theme song when my husband went away for medical school and I was alone for a year.

I have a feeling Brandi would destress me on the way to and from school in the car. And woe is me I need it.

I have her last album and just love it. I’d heard “The Story” somewhere and fell in love instantly. The fact that the rest of the album was so moving and beautiful just made it that much better. “Losing Heart” is maybe my favorite but there’s honestly not a track I don’t love.

I love running to The Story from an older album. So much emotion.

I too first heard of Brandi Carlisle when I heard “The Story”. I fell instantly in love with her voice and the emotion behind it. Been a fan ever since.

Cool. I’ve never heard of her, but I’m all for the mellow, too.

I love Brandi Carlile. Great voice, great lyrics, great music. I recently read an article about her in the Seattle Times (she’s from here) and was listening to her music streaming from her website. Lovely! I would listen to the album here at home while my two preschoolers dance around.

The first song that was popular here in MN was a song I really disliked, called the Story. But then I heard her new one, Dreams, and I heard her do a live in-studio on the local public radio station here (you should try it, you can stream online, thecurrent.org) and she was AH-MAZING. It gave me chills. Over the RADIO.

I LOVE BRANDI CARLISLE! How exciting! She had alot of songs on Grey’s Anatomy soundtracks, which is how I discovered her.

Love her! Heard her for the first time on Grey’s Anatomy.

My sister recommended her to me. Her songs make me want to sing out loud and dance around the kitchen in my socks. That’s how you know it’s a good song :)

*She’s* who my friend was listening to in the car! It was so good, but I forgot her name!

You might like Ingrid Michaelson. She came up when I was listening to Pandora the other day. Neko Case and Rilo Kiley are great “girl singers” too, but not so upbeat. Well, the latter is a band, but with a girl singer!

Hadn’t heard of her until this post. Love her. I’d listen to her driving, cleaning, making out, plus yoga.

I first discovered Brandi’s music in a creative writing class my sophomore year of college–she was a friend of a friend and Amy knew I would love her music. I was going through a very rough time in life and even writing wasn’t helping as a form of cheap therapy. The subtle confidence of her lyrics and how comfortable she is in who life has molded her to be helped guide me to the better place I needed to be. The lyrics that helped the most?
“You fall apart again and you can’t find a friend,
Don’t turn to someone else because they won’t understand,
I don’t want to hear
You say that you miss yesterday,
If you don’t like what you see
That means nothing to me.”

I do love her, I need to go out and get this album. Or just steal your iPod. If you ever come back to Indiana that is.

I LOOOOOOOVE Brandi Carlile’s song “The Story.” I first heard it on Grey’s Anatomy. Would love to win her new CD.

Love her. Discovered her from Grey’s. My 14 yo and I love to belt out her songs while we’re in the car. Would love to win :)

Thanks for the chance.

One of my friends has been bugging me for ages to listen to her. We both like Jack Johnson & my friend said Brandi C. is mellow like him, which I like! It’s just one of those things that I keep meaning to do but never get around to. Maybe now I will! ;) I would mostly listen to her on my computer or in my vehicle.

Ooh, I just heard of Brandi for the first time, from elizalou.com/blog

Saw a video of her singing “Oh Dear” live on youtube and knew I’d like her music.

I’ve never heard her, but I’m up for checking out anything new and recommended.

I have heard of her, but I’ve never actually heard her music. However, I love Indigo Girls and Rachel Yamagata. I would love to listen to her on the drive home, trying to de-stress from work (and traffic!)

i like to take pictures.
