Oh Harry. So many people have so many opinions about you.

Take Cody for instance. He didn’t know you could sing. So when he saw your new CD sitting on our kitchen table he said “That guy is trying to be a singer too?”
Now you see, by “that guy” he meant the guy we had just watched as Renée Zellweger’s love interest in that Minnesota movie a few weeks ago, dontchaknow?
And when I think of you I always think of you as Grace’s husband from Will & Grace.
You were a good husband to her, she didn’t deserve you.
But come Christmas time I think of you as that guy whose Christmas album is parked on repeat on my iPod singing your version of “O Holy Night” to me. It’s a toss up between your version and Celine’s for my favorite holiday song.
But let’s take a little gander at this new album of yours.
Honestly Harry? No one can croon the way you do. Sure there’s other posers out there, but you Harry? Are irreplaceable. And here you are singing all these classical standards making me swoon all over again.
“Your Songs” Album Track Listing (Originally performed by):
All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)

Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)
Want to win Harry’s new album? A soundtrack for any grown up dinner party or my personal favorite, getting ready for a hot date soundtrack. Leave me a comment and let me know if you like Harry better as a singer or an actor. Or both? Or maybe you didn’t even know he did either, or that it was the same guy.
I personally like my Harry any way I can get him. Like on his website, or on facebook.
Open to anyone. Comments will close Monday November 2nd and midnight EST.
(Dear FTC, I got the album for free. That’s it. And I liked him even before I got it for free. xo)

I’d like a free copy! I like Harry and this track list is very interesting to me. I’m a fan of almost all the originals so I’d like to hear his interpretation.

oooohh Harry. I was the nerdy kid listening to Harry Connick Jr when I was in jr high. then when I worked a cd store and ‘Come By Me’ came out, I got to take home the big HCJ cutout. I love him as a singer, and I agree, he was too good for Grace!

Random integer generator, PLEASE pick number 2!
I loved HC Jr in P.S. I Love You. But his voice rocks too. He even tops Michael Bublé. And for me, that’s hard to do.

That just depends on whether you’re talking crazy psycho killer with red hair acting or the wooing Sandra Bullock with slow dancing acting.
Christmas is not Christmas without Harry singing to me.
P.S. Didn’t he cheat on Grace? Not sayin’ it’s a deal-killer, after all I forgave Ben for cheating on Felicity.

I actually like him better as an actor, not because I don’t like his singing, but sometimes I don’t like the choice of songs. (But I like the songs on this list!) And I liked that Minnesota movie.
But my husband… now HE loves HCJ’s music. In fact, that’s one of the things that got our relationship going – we were longdistance, and he used to sing songs off one of HCJ’s cd’s to me as we fell asleep on the phone together. (Yes, you read that right. We would talk all into the night, and some mornings I would wake up and the lines would still be connected; we could say good morning to each other. I’ll pause a moment while you wipe a tear, or gag, whichever.)
So yeah. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

I like him best as a singer. For sure.
However, I will also take my Harry anyway I can get him.
And just for fun…my all time favorite quote from Hope Floats…
Bernice Pruitt: At home we had a pet skunk. Mama used to call it Justin Matisse. Do you think thats just a coincidence? All day
long she would to scream, “You stink Justin Matisse!” Then one day
she just picked up a club and killed it.
Justin Matisse: Now that’s a sad story.
Bernice Pruitt: Yeah, if you liked the skunk, which we didn’t.

Cody’s comment makes me giggle, because I remember watching Independence Day and saying, “Gee, HCJ can act too?!” I wore the crap out of my (ahem) cassette of When Harry Met Sally back in the day. Of course I upgraded to the soundtrack on CD. His voice is gorgeous. His Xmas CDs are my fave holiday songs. He could sing the phonebook and I would totally listen!

Singing. For me, preferably.
I think the first movie I saw Harry in was Little Man Tate, and I thought he did a much better job than his wife did in that one episode of Friends where she’s stuck in the bank lobby with Chandler. I love that he makes movies, too, but I much prefer to listen to him sing.

I love him as a singer! I’m glad that there is someone to represent a simple, straight forward singing style of past decades. His arrangements of songs are really interesting but still fit the style very well.

I like Harry as both. I like his voice as a singer, and I really like his face as an actor. Harry Connick Jr. was fisrt celebrity crush at the ripe old age of 6. And he looks just as handsome to me now as he did those 20 years ago.
By Heather on 10.30.09 2:40 pm | Permalink
I like Harry as both, but probably better as an actor because I have to disagree with the statement, “No one can croon better than Harry.” He is a great singer, but I’d say Michael Buble is better. Even so, I love me some Harry!

I think it was in 2001 that I took one of those fly-for-a-day trips to Naw’Leans for a mid-night in Mardi Gras and accidently ran into Harry Connick Jr. literally ! on the street in front of a hotel ! There was lots of revelry, he was with a big party, and like the tourists we were, my friends and I were looking up, not watching where we were going-and BAM – smacked right into him!
Now, I’m old enough to be his mother, and although I appreciated his courtesy and graciousness – I would have much rather twisted my ankle, had him take me up to his room to put ice on it and then heat up everything else ! I’m a big fan.

I would have to say the question isn’t really Harry as an actor vs Harry as a singer. Singer wins hands down. The real question is Harry as a singer vs Harry as a pianist. His voice is good – almost Sinatra-esque. But watching him tickle the ivories .. . That’s really where he rocks.
