It’s safe to say I own 90% of classic Disney animated movies on DVD. (I happen to have a friend of a friend who is married to someone “on the inside” so there you go.) I love them all for different reasons. I could sing you any song from any Disney movie. I own Disney trivia games.
Get me inside Disneyland or Disneyworld? I cry from happiness. Literally. It’s kind of embarrassing actually but I don’t care.
There are only a few DVD’s I have yet to get my paws on because of the whole Disney vault thing they do (sneaky, but brilliant.)

The last one I checked off my list? Snow White.
70 years later and the broad still has skin as white as the driven snow. *sigh*
So here’s the deal.
Eventually everyone is going to have a BluRay player. It will be like the switch from VHS to DVD. What Disney has done with this release of Snow White is include the BluRay version of the movie along with the regular old DVD. Fantastic because being stuck in a hotel room with nothing but a laptop to play movies on I have to have the regular DVD. But! Someday we will own a BluRay player and having both in the same package eliminates the need (or desire) to purchase the same movie twice, it’s like upgrading yourself without even knowing it.
I’m already looking forward to the day when we get a BluRay player and Cody will be all “so we have the player but all of our movies are regular so boo” and I will be all “NO NO! We have Snow White on BluRay and it’s awesome!”
And it is, I watched the BluRay version with the moosh at my dad’s house and what they’ve done that is so brilliant is filled in the sides of the frame for widescreen format. No black bars and also no stretched out or cropped movie. They filled in the sides with custom artwork that mimics what is going on in the current scene, it’s actually quite lovely, it’s similar to watching a play with changing scenery flanking the stage on each side.
The price tag is higher on these Diamond Edition DVD’s, but it eliminates the need to ever purchase the movie again when you make the switch over to BluRay, or if you’re already a BluRay family you can still enjoy it in portable DVD players, the car or in my case on a laptop in a hotel room when your kid is sick.

I’m giving away Snow White Diamond Edition on DVD/BluRay combo along with a special set of plush dwarfs. To be entered to win all you need to do is tell me your favorite Disney movie. Mine is probably Sword in the Stone, but UP and Meet the Robinsons are a close second. I also really like Dumbo, which is also probably the moosh’s favorite as well.
Contest is open to anyone and I will pick a winner Tuesday November 17th at midnight EST. Good luck!
(Dear FTC, I the DVD for free. No money. I already liked Disney movies. So there. Pfffbt.)

I’ll have to say Beauty and the Beast. The 1st Disney princess with intelligence and spunk, but without losing that classic Disney compulsion to burst into gut wrenching song. Hogh, don’t watch it with me unless you enjoy someone with a lower quality voice singing along. Little Mermaid is a close second, hard to let go of your childhood favorite. I still have the original VHS I bought with my birthday money from Grandma as a 6 year old. Go Disney!

I also like Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland.

I think Mary Poppins is my favorite movie of all time, but Beauty and the Beast is probably my favorite animated film. And we DO have a Blu-Ray player and only own Snow White in the regular old DVD that came out 8 years ago, so this would be great!

There are so many Disney films to choose from…where to start? How about the oldies like Darby O’Gill and the Little People (with a very young Sean Connery) or The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (starring a young Kurt Russell)…or maybe we stick to the animated masterpieces like Fantasia or Alice in Wonderland. I have to go with the sentimental attachment and choose Aladdin. Why? Because it is the movie I saw with the man who became my husband the first time we went out. How can I not choose the movie that brought me and my favorite (and only) husband together – especially when we sang the theme song, A Whole New World, to each other at our wedding?

There are so many old school disney movies that are awesome! For instance, we recently purchased Pete’s Dragon, and our kids love it! But there’s also Bedknobs an Broomsticks which is pretty great also. Or the original Herbie movies. I do love the animated classics, but my favorites are going to be ones that we watched when I was growing up.

Hi. I have been reading your blog for a little while (linked from another one I like to read) and really enjoy it. You take some beautiful pictures.
I think my favorite “classic” disney movie would have to be Sleeping Beauty. I remember liking that one because the prince had a little bit more character development than some of the other disney princess stories, and the princess was a little more fiesty!

Dude, I totally dig Beauty and the Beast. I used to watch that movie all the time as a kid (preteen, teen… sigh… adult). How could you not love that movie? The horse was fabulous. He totally pushes this movie over the edge. My daughter is more into Sleeping Beauty, but ONLY if she’s wearing the pink dress. If she’s wearing the blue dress? Forget about it. She’s all, “Psh, what happened to her fashion sense, no princess wears -blue-.” Yes, she’s only two, but her expressions say a lot. To me. I don’t get out a lot.

My favorite disney movie would have to be UP….its HILARIOUS and not to mention the bf suggested we rent it (come on…how many guys without kids willingly sit down and watch Disney movies for date night?). True, I was not a fan at the beginning of UP, it was sad, but by the end i was hooked.
How could i not love the movie when the characters remind me of my “kids” Kevin represents my dog jade (one sassy little girl, but is a sweetie) and Dug would have to be my puppy Sampson, so loyal, but a little on the ADHD side..”squirel.” I don’t have kids now, but i would love to have snow white to replace the early 90’s vhs I still own. It made it through my childhood, but i highly doubt it will make it much longer.
