Happy labor day!

Now put your white pants away.

Oh, we’re not following that rule anymore? Winter white you say? Huh.

What’s that? You don’t own white pants? Neither did I, until July. I didn’t WANT to own white pants, especially not white skinny jeans. In fact before July I didn’t own a single piece of white clothing aside from bras and underpants. Why wear white? IT GETS SO DIRTY.

White turns dingy. Cody wore an old white shirt to church yesterday and it was OFFENSIVE. There’s white, then there’s “used to be white.” Cody’s shirt certainly was certainly a fine shade of used to be white.

What about the pit stains in white clothes? Because pit stains never look good on anyone.

Tide asked if I’d work with them at the EVO conference, which I was thrilled about! But part of the agreement was that I had to wear white clothes.

Tide wanted to interview people at the conference about what wearing white meant to them. For me it meant buying clothes that were just going to get dirty then never get clean, because hello? It’s white. However, after wearing white for four days I realized I actually liked it. It felt fresh, clean and it was so easy to match and accessorize. I DIDN’T EVEN GET DIRTY!

Now that it’s Labor Day, do I have to put my white pants away? How do you even do winter white? Oh sheesh, ALL THESE RULES.

It’s all these rules that forced me into comfortable embrace ofย  black stretchy pants in the first place.

I wore white all summer and now that summer is beginning to fade into fall? My whites are still white.

Turns out wearing white isn’t so scary, if we could just get all these weird rules out of the way.

(You guys? Betty White prepares for the apocalypse while wearing white.)

I think that’s something I can get behind.

What about you? Do you wear white year round? Do you wear white at all? I swear to you, wearing white is liberating and refreshing (plus it doesn’t show cat hair) you should totally give it a try.

A special thanks to Tide for sponsoring this post. I was provided with Tide products and have been compensated for my time spent participating in the launch of Tide VIVID. All opinions are my own, especially the one about how much I like white.

  1. How did you know I’ve been angry about my fairly-new-but-not-so-white-anymore sheets? I see a trip to Target in my near future!

  2. Lisa in TX says:

I wanted a skirt to wear while I was pregnant, this last Winter and Spring, and *literally* all I could find was a white, tiered maxi. I thought I had to be absolutely insane to buy it. Three small kids, hugely and clumsily pregnant with another, and I would be wearing acres of blinding white. I was sure I would stain it beyond repair in the first day. 1) Bleach is a wonder. 2) That became my favorite skirt *ever*. I’m sad I have a baby because it means I can’t wear that skirt anymore, I love it so much. I’m plotting ways to get another one for my non=pregnant wardrobe.

  3. I don’t wear white, I’m huge, but if you can pull off white I say where it whenever you want to. Rules are so 80’s.

  4. You inspired my first purchase of WHITE SKINNY pants. Unheard of! I’m loving them. I was just wondering about the “no white after labor day” rule. It no longer applies, right? I want to wear my new pants! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I have some white, and I’m STILL scared to wear it. You know why? Because I have this fear that, even if it’s nowhere close to time, I’m GOING to start my period.
I’m going to pull out my white and give it a go again on my upcoming business trip.
    Unless I’m on my period.

    Casey Reply:

@Megan M., Dude, I totally have that fear too.
(Which is why I have a period app on my phone.)

  6. I love white! I’m also clumsy and not very careful about where I sit down. Such is life. ๐Ÿ™‚

And any chance you remember where you got that ruffly shirt in the first picture? So cute!

    Casey Reply:

@Lindsay, The shirt is from Down East Basics, I like it, but fair warning, I’ve been asked four times when I’m due while wearing it.

  7. Tracy @The UnCoordinated Mommy says:

I used to break the white after labor day rule because I lived on Florida. But this will be my first time trying to abide by it. Well see!!!

  8. We don’t have the white after labor day here in Aust. Then again some would say we don’t have fashion! Lies, all lies! But I read this just after I read you and thought you might like it: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/140464

  9. See, now I always took the opposite tack. White jeans and white shorts are my favorite because, while I swear by OxyClean to keep them from getting dingy, if they really get messy, hello, BLEACH. That’s one reason I never bought anything other than white towels until recently. White is your friend, my friend.

  10. I love all your outfits but especially the button-down shirt dress. Is TIDE Vivid replacing TIDE with Bleach Alternative? That’s what we’ve been using for years to do our whites, we swear by it!
