it's my birthday. 4.28

a sort of birthday palindrome.

today I turn 28.

28 on the 28th.

my golden birthday.

For the third year, I will ask you for a comment cake full of the best things that have happened to you over the last month.

Naps, jobs, babies, friends, sunshine.

I look forward to it every year.

The only difference is this year it will be gluten free.

28 is going to be good.

I can tell.

  1. That is one awesome photo!! Happy birthday!

  2. michelle n says:

Happy Birthday! I had to have my first gluten-free b-day cake this year too!! I made the GF betty crocker cake mix and covered it in tasty frosting. It wasn’t the best cake I’ve ever had but it certainly wasnt’ the worst either.

I realized that I would be celebrating my 11th wedding anniversary next month. I am so happy with my marriage. We have had some pretty tough things to deal with but we have gotten closer with each experience. So, the best thing in my life is my hubby. …And my tomato plants in the back yard.

I hope you know how much I appreciate you sharing your experiences in life. Your sorrows and triumphs have inspired me in different ways. Thanks and Happy b-day!

  3. Happy birthday Casey. I hope it’s the start of a wonderful year for you.

I’ll give you a few things, just because. 🙂 My mom’s birthday is today too. She’s here visiting and for the first time ever I managed to get her a gift that she was super shocked to get.

I turned 30 on the 20th and spent the weekend with my very best friend in the entire world, who happens to have a birthday of the 19th.

I, for the first time in a year used my actual camera, to take photos of my best friend and her kids.

  4. My best friend in the world came to visit, and we spent an entire night awake talking. He moved away for work recently and we’ve not had the chance to hang out like we used to, so we stayed up late talking on the couch and all of a sudden it was 8:30 in the morning. So so so fun. 🙂

Happy birthday, miss lady! I adore you!

  5. Have a wonderful birthday!

  6. Happy Birthday from a long time reader but not an every day commenter!

The best thing that happened to me this month was making the decision that now is the right time to buy a home. Just started looking..yay!

    Enjoy your day!!

  7. Hap-Hap-Happy Birthday!!!

    A couple of things:

    ~ April babies RAWK!
    – ’82 is THE year, baby!
    – Your balloons are kickin’

  8. I aced the final.

  9. The best thing that happened to me? Well…

I got married!! (April 17th, yo)

    (They honeymoon was nice too.)

  10. i already said it on flickr, but: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

April is always a special month… because I’m April 😉

    hee hee

  11. I quit drinking, and the whole world started to sound like violins.

Kind of like when I come here.

Happy birthday, golden soul. That picture, like you, is straight-up stunning.

  12. @Heather, I was five for mine too! I had a Rainbow Brite cake.

  13. Michele D says:

I got my blood test results back and I do NOT have the breast cancer gene. Woo! I had breast cancer 11 years ago, but now we know I do not carry the nasty gene.
I love that photo. You look fabulous.

  14. The best ever? My eldest turned 16 this month and I am getting glimpses of the person she will be. And full of awesome? She auditioned and was chosen as Drum Major for the local high school marching band. She is officially the Head of the Band Geeks. And as a former band geek myself, this mama is all puffed up with the proud. Since we live in Indiana, she will be competing this fall in the hometown of Moosh. So….full of joy!

  15. The day I met my husband. I was 18. We’ll be married 13 years next month.

Also, I love you, not in a creepy I’m gonna stalk you way, but in a I find you awesome kind of way. I met you at BlogHer ’08 and listened to you speak. Thank you for being you, and sharing your life.

    Happy birthday!

  16. Best things that happened this month:

I got to speak in church.
I got to help my brother when he needed me.
I got to go to ward temple night.
I got to see many of my kids who struggled all school year finally have reading “Click”.
I got to apply for new jobs.
I got to participate in Nation Infertility Awareness Week.
I got to say Happy Birthday to you!

Hope it is the most fantastic year so far for you! I adore that picture. You’re GORGEOUS!

  17. My sister turned 23 in April. I went to NY. I got to hang with a bunch of super awesome friends in Chicago. Ummmm. April has been pretty darn good.

    Happy birthday!

  18. Firstly, FELIZ CUMPLEANOS!! I love birthdays, I hope yours is full of indulging, laughing and only photogenic moments.

This month was actually great for me- I drove without having a panic attack, found great airfare to Ireland & friends to go with me, went on a super fun trip to Rock City and got a sweet sweet writing internship for a travel site that will hopefully lead to something new & good!

  19. Happy Birthday! That photo is beyond fabulous.

I just got back with a visit with some of my best bloggy friends and this month I also celebrated the 6th anniversary of my first baby’s birth. It’s been a good one…

  20. Happy birthday! I hope you enjoyed your golden day!

This month has been lovely. Spring came. I found my courage again. I lost five pounds. I had a doctor actually listen to me and help. My daughters grew and changed and grew some more. Life relaxed. We took a mini vacation to Great Wolf. Flowers bloomed and trees exploded with green.

There is so much that has been good and beautiful and wonderful. How lucky we are that we get to see it all.

  21. Happy Birthday Cassie!
In your honour — I will by my student a Wonderbar tomorrow and we will split it!
April is always a wonderful month (My B-day is March 31st) and so many wonderful things have happened this month. My Spring flowers are coming up, the cayenne pepper seems to be keeping the bunnies away, my perennials are coming up, and the lilies have mega-plied. My nephew (4)has shown me the wonders of my garden, overlooking the weeds, etc and pointing out the ladybugs, flowers and other finds. I have received spontaneous gifts from friends and I have read many many wonderful books this month (including the Secret Daughter, the Forbidden Garden and the Red Scarf).
I hope you had a fabulous birthday and may this year be as wonderful!

  22. Happiest of Birthdays. You are the brightest light. April, makes perfect sense!

  23. Good things…

My sister and I suddenly have the relationship I always wanted. I went from very nearly severing all ties with her to being incredibly close. It’s amazing.

I got to hang out with the California part of the internet last weekend, it was fantastic.

And you know, your birthday. 🙂

  24. Happy Birthday!

Good things? I booked shooting my first wedding. Extremely nervous, but in a good way.

  25. Happy Day! Good thing? The ‘crud’ is packing it’s bags and leaving. Good riddance, I say. Also, my parents are here for a visit. That’s always good!

  26. Well, I’m a day late and many dollars short.
I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Love the photo!

  27. April has brought me a (mostly) morning sickness free month! Was diagnosed with mild hyperemesis gravidarum last month.

I’ve started gaining weight and this baby hasn’t stopped kicking and flipping for the last two weeks.

I’m feeling great and getting rounder by the day 🙂

Happy Birthday to you and may God bless you with many many more wonderful and happy years

  28. Happy birthday! I have been reading your blog for a few years and relate so much and love it. My good news is that I found out I am having a 2nd baby!

  29. We finally got our living room painted, 5 years after we moved into the house. 🙂

  30. I’m a day late, but hopefully you’ll still take me! 🙂

    April, let’s see…
    – I got a promotion at my job.
    – My husband and I were discussing some land where we may hopefully have a house one day, and I love that he told me if we found the right place, we’d build the house green and that I could have the horses I’ve always wanted. I love that he remembers those desires of mine from a long time ago.
    – Glee, NCIS, and One Tree Hill (yes, I’m a sucker) all started back up. 😀
    – I finally got to go to my first photography conference and have already seen so much improvement in myself.
    – I got to hang out with all four of my grandparents, who I am still very blessed to have in my life, at a birthday dinner for my dad and brother. So nice.

So Happy, Happy (Day-late) Birthday to you Casey!! Thank you for your blog! 🙂

    Sarah Reply:

@Sarah, And thank you for this post, and making us all think about the great things that happen to us, instead of the bad ones. 🙂

    Sarah Reply:

Oops, that was meant to be directed to you Casey, not back to myself.

  31. Happy Birthday! I wish you a wonderful year. It will be a good year. they do get better.
It is my birthday month also, I was 38 on the 23rd.

    Spring is slowly sprunging!
In the last month(plus a few days) three of my four children have had birthdays to celebrate, including the baby turning one. I have baked cakes to construct special requests, arranged parties to enjoy time with friends.
We have attended birthdays parties of other friends, eaten more cake and enjoyed time with them.
I wrapped up the kids birthdays with a celebration of my own. A great day where I enjoyed my children, was showered with treats and thoughtfulness from my husband, time for myself and then dinner out with girlfriends!
We have been looking for a bigger house and we may have found one that feels like home.
There have been stressful time this month too but at this stage in life they seem to lead to insights and make me/us stronger.

  32. Happy Birthday! That is such an adorable picture!

  33. My daughter said her own name for the first time “Shevy”. it was the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, aside from the first time she cried when she was born.

  34. Memphislis says:

15 days of school left! And I’m the teacher!! Wooooo

  35. I lost my job, and then, friends came out of the woodwork to keep me on my feet, to hold my hand, and wouldn’t stop offering me new work. I got six weeks off to spend with my babies, and it’s been wonderful.

  36. Amanda says:

I finally know what I want. Happy belated Birthday!

  37. Welcome to my club! I’m a 28 baby as well, though I passed my 28th birthday three years ago, last December. I loved the whole year! Enjoy 🙂

  38. Happy 28th. (I’m 28 too).

Best things from the past month:
    * A spontaneous trip with my family to Albuquerque
    * Spending LOTS of time outdoors in the perfect spring weather

  39. P.S. Is that a picture of you? It is awesome – and makes me happy.

  40. Did I wish you a happy birthday in your comment cake on your golden birthday? I totally can’t remember and we all know that I am incredibly lazy and can not look through all of the comments to see if I did. So Happy Belated Golden Birthday to my girl Casey. Also, I just realized that I can do the whole CTRL F thing to search, but I am just that lazy today.

  41. doggone it…i’m late. what else is new?

i hope you had a spectacular golden birthday. i LOVE that picture of you with the balloons. fantabulously joyful.

hmm…best things to happen to me in the last month. glee returned. we planted our garden for this year. we booked our family vacation for this summer. i think my kids managed to make me smile more than they made me scream this month.

  42. I read this when it posted but I waited to comment. I ADORE that picture of you, btw.

Happy Birthday honey. I always remember your birthday because it is my daughter’s birthday as well. She turned 21 the day you turned 28. The next day, she moved to southern California! (I miss her but I’m SO excited for her.)

I think of you and pray for you. I hope you are well and better all the time. Hugs and Love from me to you. Amy
